Just dropped off 94 4runner With Toy only Swap
#45
Turned out there was a slight misalignment between the bell housing and the engine. I found a 5VZ bell housing at a salvage yard and had it installed by a local shop. A bit over 3,000 miles on the rig now since the 5VZ bell housing install with no apparent issues. Toy Only Swaps was good with answering questions and things to look for. They also sent a new flex plate.
Ideally they would have picked up the bill for everything and I believe they would have had I been local. Still, I am happy with the swap and believe I would be comfortable doing the whole project again.
I love my old rig! So happy to have it purring along again....

Been awhile so maybe we're do for an update. My rig continues to purr along and I'm still happy with the money spent on the swap. By and large the rig has been trouble free after the whole flex plate ordeal. In fact I've had no more engine problems at all. Other stuff like a major power steering leak have come up but that's related to overall age not anything TOS did.
So here we are 2.5 years on. Would I do it again? If I have a rig I like and have money tied up in tires, suspension, etc. Yes.
I would probably go so far as to say it might be worth it if a person could find a decent rig with a bad engine just for the purpose of having a swap done. That is if such a rig could be found for something like $500...

2+ years and all is good
They did mine about two years ago and everything is great.
BTW, the 3.4 loves Chevron 92 and loves non-ethanol 92 even better. If you haven’t tried it, you might be in for a treat.
‘90 4Runner 5sp man, 31” ko2 (all power Windows and locks still work great!)
Toyota, through second generation: “What’s a cupholder?”
