And about 65 tomorrow. I hope to get a bunch done, including motor mounts, bellhousing, and some of the interior. I ordered a lot of parts yesterday, so next weekend will most likely be spent on refurbishing the engine.

rb came down today and helped out a bunch. we got the interior pulled back, a/c out, power steering out, motor mount plates in, some exhaust pieces off, bellhousing off, and a few other little things. also, he picked off a few things from the 4runner

also of note: rb drove his runner down, so i compared his 3.0 against my 3.4...
-his has tranny supports on the bottom of the block. i measured, and i have the right holes for them, but not the supports themselves.
-the bottom of his flywheel is left exposed. i'm going to buy a cookie sheet (because it's cheaper than a sheet of steel) and cut out a cover for the bottom

and i found out that i already have the dip stick port drilled out. woo!

My Trans should have a plate on the bottom, I'm gonna use the cookie sheet idea. It's too much of a job to get one from the yard. But maybe I get lucky.

Got my oil pickup tube today (thanks bud!), so I hope to get that installed, along with the new valve cover gaskets and spark plugs. After trying to get the crankshaft bolt off, I think I'll wait to do the timing belt once it's in the truck.

Question for 2.4 to 3.4 swap guys- which radiator did you use?

No prob.
Radiator you could use a 3.0 direct bolt in. But you could probably use the 2.4 with an EFan.

thanks. i'm assuming that's for an all-brass/copper rad? would a 2-row all-aluminum also suffice? i don't plan on running boost (for a long while)

pics from this weekend, i didn't get a lot of stuff done because of the "lovely" weather. i ordered a bunch of parts on sunday, so i might be able to do some stuff this coming weekend.

I used the same radiator I had with my 22RE. I "THINK" it was ordered as a TURBO radiator.


It bolts right in. It is a 3 row brass model and cools just fine in desert heat.


Used the 3.4 fan clutch and a 3.0 fan. Custom built my own shroud.

Thanks. I need to pull mine down and rinse it out, but I think it's a 3-row.

and I have a fuel line question for you: what did you use? I have my 3.4 high pressure line flipped over, then I need to connect the other end to the fuel filter, but I'm not sure how. Is there some adapter/s that will work?

One the re to 5vz swaps i've done, I've used 2rz, 3rz fuel lines to filter and from filter to rail. This places the filter on the firewall.

I salvaged tubing from my donor vehicle. You can see I put the stock fuel filter on the inner fender. If you look close I just fabbed a double male line and put it between the filter and stock pressure hose.

Here's a pic of where I made a short hard line from the original 22RE fuel line near the slave cylinder. It runs up and into the other side of the filter. I think you can see where it comes up in the other pics.

thanks! that helped a lot.

i played around with fuel filter placement and connections last night. i found a banjo bolt and fitting that fits the toyota filter perfectly, length and threads. the banjo fitting is barbed and steel, so i have two options: one, i can weld directly onto the fitting- or 2, i can use a flex line and hose clamps. i will probably do option 2 for now, and get a better adapter if i need to.

also, i've seen a lot of people either cut these off or weld them shut. i might want to add a burrito warmer or water heater, so i found some caps to plug them for now. and there will be hose clamps on them before i put anything in

I ended up with two sets of those fittings. I welded one set shut to avoid leaks and kept one set as is in case of the need for hot shower or something. Here's how it is now.




You can see my flipped fuel supply line and behind it I used some salvaged tubing for the return line. For the return I just used a short rubber connector line with clamps to the original return line in the stock location.

cool, yep.

also, i looked at ors' instructions again, and saw i need a 3.0 filter... or maybe i just pull the one off the 3.4. either way, i'm pretty sure i just spent $17 on a part for an engine i no longer want

I just used the 3.4 fuel filter. It looks like my 22RE filter would have fit also? Maybe different inside?
