Been a long time since I have posted on here. It turned out that my intake needed a new gasket and re torqued. My runner has been running great all year. I love the power difference and the overall feel of the truck. But like most men I am still not satisfied... So I picked up a 94 4runner with a 5speed in it and I am preparing for the Auto to Manual SWAP WOOOP! Stay tuned...

Update

Put some work into the truck this week. Started prepping for the 5speed to go in.

It honestly was quite simple... I used the brake assembly to mark my holes and drill them out. FREE TEMPLATE! Then a little dissasembly and it popped out. I think the only tricky part was pulling the brake master out enough to clear the pedals from it.

some pics:

I ran the hard lines along the fire wall in the 3rd slot provided with your other hard line brackets. Once finished, I connected my soft line and then took 2 self tapping sheet metal screws to secure the bracket to the firewall.

I stopped there because I am not quite sure where the other bracket will fit because of my 3.4 swap it doesn't appear that it can be mounted to the motor....

Once I order my clutch kit for the 3.4 motor I will have to find that out

Anyone heard bad things about the Gripforce flywheel+clutch kits?

If you find the right deal its actually doesn't cost very much and isn't really that hard with all the info in yota tech. I found a wrecked 98 T100 and bought it for 1300$ then after gutting it I parted out the rest of it and made about 800 total from it. So I got a 3.4 swap for approx 700$. The only reason it costed me that was because I wanted to go through and replace all the seals and gaskets and water pump etc etc.

Since my 3.4 adventure I have been able to fund all my projects from parts vehicles. Like my 5speed swap I am working on now has actually turned into a profit for me. Found a 94 4runner blown rod for 400$ grabbed all the tranny stuff plus stuff I wanted and have turned about 700$ off it in parts so far! Got to love TOYOTAS!

I had a very helpful friend with this! He saved me a lot of money by helping me out with the wiring. It helps to have both wiring harnesses from both rigs so you can just work on a harness that can plug and play. If you don't know how to do wiring diagrams or have access to a friend that can this could be a spendy part for the swap.....

Here comes the rack!

I decided I wanted to try and build my own rack for my runner. So I made up some drawings and took some measurements. Then I went down to the local metal shop and grab some supplies. I went over to a friends house and made some 90's for my little project.

I would post up my thoughts and drawings but I don't want to get made fun of

So I will just try to take photos for each step along the way so you guys get to see the rack build and the end result (Good or Bad)

You might just put paste a link to new thread, as roof rack build doesn't pertain to 3.4 swap.

Is there any way to move the whole thread to the build up section?

A mod can move the whole thread to a new section, but your thread has good info about swapping in it, so I wouldn't want to see it moved entirely. I think your roof rack buildup link you've done is best.

Rear Tire Swing

Thought I would post a picture of my rear tire swing.

Wasn't the easiest thing to install but well worth the look!

I had to install some aftermarket back up lights as well.

Also, did you happen to maintain your rear heater lines after the swap? If so, do you mind posting some pics of your heater line configurations and a description of what hoses you used to configure?

Thanks a ton!

I didn't take any pics along the way for the tire carrier but I can try to give you a few tips.... I basically took a 1/8 in thick piece of "sheet metal" and cut two 8" x 2" pieces to strengthen where the carrier is bolted on. I then pre drilled holes into the pieces and snaked my hand into the wheel well (without cutting anything out for access) and held the piece there while I got a bolt through. (Hope that makes sense). Also I formed the pieces using the mounting bracket on the carrier, meaning I placed the metal piece on the bracket and used a ball hammer to "mold" the shape I needed for the corner of the wheel well. I did it by myself just used some boxes and other random stuff to help hold up the tire carrier as I put it into position and bolted it on. That's basically it for the carrier.

As far as the heater stuff your talking about. My truck didn't have the rear heater in it so I haven't had to mess with that. Allthough I have ran into them recently with some of my donor trucks and thought I might take that adventure some day. If you happen to complete it first let me know!!!

Well I used a 98 T100 which had the transfer case on the correct side which made it alot more cost effective. You can use your old tranny it bolts up. I swapped in a r150 5speed out of a 94 4runner. If you use your old tranny you can use the same drivelines.

By the way, I'd save and use the T-100 air box. Get rid of the Pod filter. You'll get colder cleaner denser air from the box.
