3.4 swap headers?

does anybody know where to find 3.4 headers without a crossover? i need headers that drop down on each side of the block. my exhaust is on the drivers side, not on the passenger side like the 5vz headers i have seen.

I believe Trail gear is working on headers. Might be the same as the Downey headers. Should be done in a few months. Other than that, I haven't found any. Good Luck!

i'll check with trail gear, thanks. i'm gonna check with doug thorley too.

Downey is no longer in business, but they make a "long tube" header for the 3.4.

Doug Thorley is currently the only company that makes a long tube for the 3.4, but expect to spend a bit.

The Doug Thorley's may be considered a "long tube" header, but they cross over above the bellhousing. That's how they're CARB compliant, I believe.

have not contacted doug thorley or trail gear yet. will let you know when i find out something. wish downey was still in business. i would like to find a pair of cantilever shackles from downey too. anyone know who made stuff for downey?

Downey likely had multiple people farm out their production (lowest bidder).
I have the downey headers... i had to put $350 and 8 hours of time INTO them before they were up to my standards... i had to machine the flanges, re-weld multiple areas where there were holes (ridiculous, they were brand new) port/polish the connection to the head (the welds created a huge bottleneck in the airstream) the EGR blockoff wasn't ceramic coated like the headers... and because i had to do all that work, i had to get them re-ceramic coated! With that quality i'm guessing it's part of the reason they went out of business.

Lookin' good Greg!!

I use dielectric gel on plastic/rubber that needs a little help. Put a very light coat on your radiator hoses when you reach that point, and they'll work right on for you.

Wow... that saved my :wiggle:... best tip so far! LOL... :o

This post will be dedicated to how much i hate downey and am glad they are no longer in business. Judging by the quality of my headers... i don't know how anyone was not pissed with buying from them.

OK here are the headers, with V-band clamps welded on and re-ceramic coated (i'll get to that)
https://i148.photobucket.com/albums/...install048.jpg

The flanges... after i drilled them out to accept the stock OEM metal gasket, and got them milled flat because the flange was so warped...
https://i148.photobucket.com/albums/...install050.jpg
The collecter pipe after i spent 3 hours hogging them out... because the welds were taking away 10% of the diameter of the tube... wow great work downey... also it's XMC coated for less friction / even better heat retention (ceramic + xmc drop the outside temp by 50%.... critical when running so close to the starter and clutch and fuel and brake lines...)
https://i148.photobucket.com/albums/...install054.jpg

In the middle of blowing out the little pellets from the ceramic coating... oh guess what, there is a clear HOLE in the header... they missed a spot of welding the collecter! WTF downey!?!?! (and i missed it before re-coating)... my neighbour down the street has a monster arc welder (works for the city) and zapped it closed for me... but now it can rust there... stupid downey... not getting it recoated for that but still... wtf...
https://i148.photobucket.com/albums/...install055.jpg

Headers installed, showing the EGT probe i got welded in... and the EGR flange, which was nicely NOT coated from downey, and was bare rusty metal... again WTF downey? what's wrong with you guys? (i got it coated)
https://i148.photobucket.com/albums/...install056.jpg
Also, the middle / bottom bolt on the driver side header... took 20 minutes... all the other 11 bolts took 15 minutes to tighten... geez.... good work again downey!!! Btw... those flex head gear wrenches saved my :wiggle: again on this one... soooo much easier than a standard wrench...

I went with the Doug thorley headers:

But these are passenger side drop. For my application on my swap it doesnt matter since I will be hacking at the fenders and replacing stuff.

just got off the phone with mike at lc engineering, he said they might fab up some long tubes for us 5vz swappers. if anyone else is interested in 3.4 headers without crossover, reply here or contact mike at l.c engineering.http://www.lcengineering.com/
