3.4 Swap Harness Spreadsheet Review

Hi all, first 3.4 swap, 99 4Runner Manual into a 91 Pickup 3.0 Manual. I have the EWD's from TIS, have created a spreadsheet, have my plugs and am ready to solder. I was wondering if anyone who is experienced at this is willing to review my spreadsheet and let me know if it looks right. Now I know there are many variances for year/manual/auto/etc. But the basics are quite similar and if you have done this enough I gather a quick look should be enough to say yeah, that makes sense, or wow he is out to lunch.

Anyways, if anyone is willing to review before I start to solder, please send me a PM. I just want to make sure i don't make any smoke when I turn the key!

Thanks,
Ian

I've done a couple. And I'm doing one right now. I'll take a look for you.

I am swapping a 99 4runner manual into my 88, so I am familiar with half of your wiring. I was able to get my 4wd indicator to work by:
  • grounding II3 (17) to the passenger kick panel
  • connecting II3 (1) to your body harness's 4wd indicator line, also spliced here a connection to E12 (18) to let the ECU know, only because that is what the diagrams seemed to suggest it was like stock, probably not needed.
  • Make sure you have swapped connectors and attached your transfercase 4wd switch to the new engine harness :)
From what it seems to me, your 4wd switch is basically just completing a ground for your dash light. Its a 2 wire plug and it takes in a ground signal through II3 (17), when you engage 4wd, it sends that signal back through to II3 (1). Hopefully that helps. I am still wrapping up my wiring and swap as well. If your curious, here is a link to my wiring doc if you wanted to compare anything.

Perfect thanks, that is the same way I have the 4wd wiring, except I was not going to wire it to the ecm, I didn't think it really needed to know. Thanks for providing your spreadsheet as well, nice to double check this stuff and make sure I am on the right path at least. The only question I have now is wiring the cruise control, I don't know if the IDLO needs to be connected or not.

Glad I could help :) Sorry I dont have cruise control so I am a little in the dark on that one!

I reviewed your spreadsheet, and its a good thing i did! I had B+ going to the ECM (E14) and the engine (II3), but I never actually provided a source from the truck harness. Glad I caught that before I plugged it all in and turned the key! Would be a lot of cranking and no starting! So thanks for saving me hours of trouble shooting! There were 2 other differences, but I will look into it when I get home, I think it may just be because of the differences in harnesses between 88 and 91.

mbomberz1 02-01-2017 07:40 PM

Haha yeah that would have been fun to track down. I imagine the other differences are because of the 88 vs 91 changes. 88 was the first year of the 3.0 and it seems to not match much compared to some other years. Good luck finishing up the harness, you are close!

Ta-da!

I had some free time last night, so I got to work!

Do you have the IK2 spreadsheet with the colours?

Do you have the IK2 spreadsheet with the colours? It's the big white female connector with the black bracket. Thanks

I know this was from awhile ago, but how did you find all the functions of every pin? I've been able to trace most pins but a handful I can't find in the EWD's that I have. Is there a diagram or something that you used. My plugs don't match these ones because I have an auto so I can't reference this, just want to know how you found the functions.
