3.0 to 3.4 swap done, 5 speed swap? Need help
I have a 95 4runner limited 4x4 that previously had the 3 slow, already completed my 3.4 swap with a 99 3.4 and harness from off road solutions. Drove great for about 3 months and now my trans is going out. Won’t shift right, leaks in about 5 different places, burns fluid etc.. it has a 4 speed auto A340H and I was going to rebuild it or replace it with a rebuilt one, but I started thinking about it and I really want a 5 speed. Is it doable with the 3.4 swap? If so, which 5 speed and transfer case should I be looking for? Where should I be looking for them? Driveshafts? Detailed parts list of everything I would need would be amazing but I’m sure I’ll have to piece one together myself. I’m in college full time so I won’t really get a chance to work on it until December when we get a break. If anyone knows anything about doing a 5 speed swap behind a 3.4 I would love your insight on this!

you need the 5 speed and transfer case from the same generation 4runner. you also will need the drive shaft. you might also need the ECU, or you will get Auto codes

my swap used a 2nd gen 5 speed and a 98 3.4 with the auto ecu and harness since i didnt want to buy the m/t ECU. All i did was use resistors to trick the ECU into thinking the solenoids and atf temp sensor were in place (used 800 ohm resistors to ground). Also I used a relay powered by the STA terminal, the N/O powered "NSW" on the ECU. and N/C powered the "2". The relay Fools the PNPS which will throw codes if you start in other than park or drive in other than a gear. if you trick it into drive it will throw codes because it will see you in the wrong gear at the wrong speed. Also power the TFN (transfer case neutral) aswell to avoid speed sensor codes. (still trying to get the speedometer to work mind you)
if this is too much then I suggest you buy a M/T ECU and repin it. personally I didnt want to spend the money as they are not cheap around here ($600ish)
M/T driveshaft is about 2" longer on 2nd gen 4runners also btw.
