Toyota Oil Filters
 

hey guys here is some info i would like to pass on. i just changed my oil today and the last time becouse i had no time to do it myself i went to juffy lube and man was that a mistake! it took about 30 minutes to take the filter of,man was it tight! never again. well i hope this info helps out.

So what do you use oversize filters for? Longer time periods between oil changes? :dunno:

I would much rather run my truck up to 7500 w/o an oil change than to go to Jiffy Lube. Every single one of those that I've ever gone to has been operated by a crook.

Like you said, they either don't know what the heck they're doing (and try to pass it off like they forgot or something) OR they're trying to get you service that you don't need. :barf:

i change my oil a lot becouse my truck is a work truck and sometimes its rollin' all the time.and yes you are right,juffy lube sucks. i will never go thare again:nono:

I think any lube place will intentionally put the filter on so tight its nearly impossible to get it off. It generates repeat buisness when a mere mortal like you and I try to remove the filter and can't.

If you find yourself changing the oil too frequently think about switching to synthetic. It really does last longer. I'll only have to do mine 2 times this year unless I go crazy and drive to Seattle this summer.

I know people who have worked at those Jiffy Lube place. All I hear about is how they forgot to put oil in the car or left the drain plug out. That is why I always change my own oil.

I always buy toy filters. Someone told me on the wire that toy filters contain some oil in the filter and wont empty out after you turn off your engine or something and they catch more particles than fram does. If someone else wants to chime in that would be great. The filter at my dealer costs me like 3bucks and some change.

There are a couple of studies out there where they cut open several different brands of filters and see what's inside. Fram is among the worst you can buy.

Neither are for Toyota applications but you can guess that each company uses the same techniques to make their filters for all applications.

I drive to Seattle every day. Does this mean I need to change my oil more often? Driving IN Seattle does suck, guess it counts as severe conditions!

i always get mine done at a certified dealer, they are trained to look for other potential problems while it is in there, while a jiffy lube is gonna have some 17 year old who bareley knows his opil change procedures let alone anything else. Plus i work at a dealership so itis so cheap and convenient

I always use Toyota OE oil filters they're great and actually pretty cheap too...plus their smaller size means less oil means cheaper oilchange:) synthetic does get expensive...I run 5W30 in winter and 10W30 in summer...being a work truck I change every 5000Kms or three mos. which ever comes first synthetic or not I just think its cheap insurance ya know?
