synthetic or fossil oil in new 4Runner

On Toyota's Canadian website it recommends using Toyota full synthestic 5w30 oil in the new 4Runner.

Is this the same here in the US?

I was always tought that its better to use fossil oil for the first 2 oil changes, and then switch to synthetic.

What is your opinion?

I think Toyota is right on this but I think I'd use Mobil-1 intead of the Toyota oil. They don't make it in any case.

I've changed vehicles with as little as 1000 miles over to Mobil-1 with no problems. It's factory fill on a number of new vehicles now so there must not be a breakin problem.

I would use fossil oil for the first 5000 miles then use synthetic oil if you want.

Amsoil suggested I use standard motor oil until the first scheduled oil change (5K) for my 2003 Highlander. I thought the Toyota US FAQs recommended the same.

synthetic in transmission

My Tacoma has Synthetic Mobile 1 5-30 in the engine and has Amsoil series 2000 75-90 in all the diff. and transfer, next is the Automatic transmission has any body used mobile1 in there transmission? amsoil will cost 150 $ just for the 15 quarts of ATF I was thinking Mobile1 is somewhat cheaper.
