rack and pinion boot replacement....
Anyone have a Factory service manual that tells how to replace the rack and pinion boot? I've torn a boot on the passenger side. I just needed to see what all work had to be done. Rig is a 1998.
Thanks, data |
I know someone has to have a factory service manual handy!!!

I just used something like This and slid a new boot on..

um..you jack it up and take the tire off. undo the tierod end. undo the boot, pull it off then put the new one back on and reassemble. Thats not the exact quote form the manual, but i put it in simple terms even i could understand. its really not that hard to do, one you get in there you see how it comes off.
good luck. |
Yeah I figured that I might need a tie rod puller b\c I need to pop the lower ball joint from the knuckle if I'm thinking correctly. I'm guessing that I need to mark the point of where I took the tie rod out. Hell I'll figure it out

good luck. You could do all of this - I didn't ..just popped the tie rod, kicked out the tire with my foot-slid the boot off and slid on another and repositioned the tire then reattached the tie rod end.. didn't need to remove the tire or the lower ball joint its a breeze...you are talking about replacing the R&P boot right? |
Yeah I just need to replace the rack and pinion boot. How'd you do it without popping the lower balljoint again? LOL! Sounds like thats the route I need to take. Seems like it'd be alot easier!
|
Yeah I shoulda looked harder....
https://www.yotatech.com/~corey/tech...boot/jowie.htm I might try the route where I don't have to pop the lower balljoint though.... ;) |

Cory's write up is a good way to go - I just think he took a unnecessary step...I didn't remove the tie rod end - the boot just slides over it.. and I don't see anywhere there where he removed the lower ball joint..i don't mean to confuse you-if you are follow Cory's steps to the letter. |
you have a pm :)
