You do know you're using the term "Full Synthetic" rather loosely when you talk about Castrol. Castrol can legally use the "term" full synthetic as a legal civil case settled several years ago gave them the right to advertise as such. That particular legal case was between Castrol and Mobil 1 and Castrol won that case in court. The oils that have the legal right to call themselves "full synthetic," can be made from Group III base oils - a Group III has different characteristics from oils made from Group II or II+ base oil (Dino oil) as a Group III is a highly refined "petroleum product". The process is carried to the next level making it a little more costly but it also is a superior product to Group II+ base oil but is a far cry from a Group IV polyalphaolefin base oil with a small amount of Group V ester, which is a TRUE synthetic. If you're interested in the differences here are a couple sites.

I did'nt intend to use the word " Full Synthetic" loosely-- Just that this is what it say's on the oil bottles that I buy & put in--Full Synthetic-- I know Castrol has two brands of Syntec oil-- one, part Synthetic and the other Full synthetic which I am using... If Castrol is misinforming consumers I would really want to know...Thanks for the Info links though-- very informative...

The Castrol "full synthetic" is a Group lll, Amsoil XL-7500 is a Group lll, Mobil 1 is a Group lV with a little Group V ester as is Amsoil (with the exception of the XL-7500). Mobil 1 fought the good fight against Castrol for basically false advertising but with lawyers arguing over the meaning of full synthetic was like Clinton arguing over the meaning of "is" or whatever it was.

Here's the deal, ANY synthetic is far superior to conventional oil, for many reasons. Synthetic oil is actually overkill, especially when it's changed less then 10K miles. Now, as far which is best; Amsoil and Mobile 1 consistently prove (In Lab. tests) to be the top two oils. The main reason is they use the purest/best base oil, therefore it needs less additives (additives create contamination, and breakdown).

P.S. ONLY USE THE RECOMMENDED OEM VISCOSITY, IN THIS CASE BIGGER IS NOT BETTER!

That a pretty big risk using a fram filter but it your ride. Use the toyota, amsoil, napa, or K&N. I use napa filter. Valvoline dino 5-30

i ran amsoil 5w30 syntechic motor oil with an amsoil filter in my old taco. i changed the oil filter every six months and the oil itself every 12 months. no problems.

I have a friend that has a Dodge with a Cummins turbo diesel and has Walmart do his changes with the cheapest oil they have every 10-15K miles, using Fram filters (which are not recommended by Cummins) and his engine is so dirty that it just looks like a big black grease ball. He also runs cheap tires that don't even match. Has 150+K miles on it and it just keeps going and going.

Pitbull,

Great information! That link validates what I've been trying to convey in my posts.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic 5w30 in my wife's Infiniti and my Tundra. Mobil 1 synthetic is factory fill in corvette's, mercedes, etc.

Thats exactly was I was thinking would happen....yeah the amsoil is a great oil but after 14k miles its viscosity has changed from 5w30 to 15w40....which is a no no esp in that LS1.....you cant argue the facts....sure its still in spec but how hard is it to change your oil....it takes me a max of 15 minutes, not including picking up the oil in my daily travels.....

I esp wouldnt keep it in a turbo charged car for very long esp. in the winter....when I had my WRX I ran mobil 1 but changed it every 3000 miles, to avoid higher viscosities....

I ran M1 syn in my Eclipse from 32k miles till I sold it with 117k and I changed mine every 3000 miles since I didn't think squeezing even another 1000 miles was worth the risk to the turbo plus it was regularly at the drag strip.
