Jacks

How do you guys get your rigs off the ground with anything bigger than 31 inch tires? I've got 31x10.5's and the factory crappy little bottle jack won't even lift a tire off the ground. I don't really want to carry around a 2-ton truck jack around in the back of my 4Runner, what are you guys using?

Highlift if I absolutely have to, but I hate to get it off of my roofrack, otherwise my 3 ton Larin floor jack. The bottle jack is only good for a boat anchor after you stick thirtyones on your rig IMO. IMO those bottle jacks are scary! But then again maybe im being a :baby:

I use a hi-lift but you may not want to carry a 48" long jack in your runner....:drink: :drink:

If his pic is his rig then I don't think he has a roofrack so it would be in....:D :drink:

Yeah, the picture in my avatar is my 4Runner. I have the factory roof-rack and I don't really think I'll be keeping a jack up there. If I get a new jack it will have to be something that won't take up too much of the cargo area.

Yeah I was wondering the same thing...the only kind of lifting stuff I have now are 4 wheel ramps to raise the entire truck up about 8 inches but with the wheels on the ramps or the wimpy stock jack...NOT CUTTING IT!

Yeah, I'm going to see if I can get one of my Dad's bigass 2 1/2 ton jacks for when I'm at home. I still really need something for when I'm on the road so if I were to get a flat tire I wouldn't be screwed.

Just for on the road I would just make a good base for the factory jack, or just a good block of wood....:drink: :drink:

Heres what I carry around in the back of my tercel. Makes spare tire swaps real quick.

Might need to carry wood blocks to raise the factory jack up.

Just curious...what jack point are you all using w/ the bottle jack that it doesn't reach?

If you lift off the a-arm in the front, and the axle in the rear, it should work fine for 31's.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I always lift from the a-arms or the rear axle. The hi-lift can be dangerous, it's bulky and must be bolted to the floor if carried inside, takes a lot of effort to use, plus you have to have armor to use it. I never use the hilift unless I have to.

The Hi-Lift should be a trail tool used on sliders.

I use a regular 12 ton bottle jack on the rear axle or front crossmember and it is fine with 33's.

My jackstands to reach the frame are leaving a lot to be desired.

I bought a hydraulic floor jack that is very compact from Harbor Frieght Tools. $20. I think the tie down in the back will be plenty to keep it in place.
I plan to take it with me on trips since the stock jack is useless.

I've had to use my stock jack and I'm running stock 31s, 265?. I just put it where the manual said to and was able to change out my passenger rear tire no problem.

I have the same issue with my truck. I ended up doing this with my Hi-Lift:

I wanted to take off my wheels and then re-torque my them to factory spec and found out today that my bottle jack is useless. I guess when I am on the road I either need some wood to elevate the bottle-jack or just get a high-lift.

I bought a 3-ton jack from Harbor Freight ($59) and it did the trick with no problems.
