checking trouble codes

I want to check my trouble codes and just want to make sure I'm doing it right, don't want to burn out the computer or anything. My Chiltons says to jump connection X and Y with SST or a suitable jumper wire. Just to confirm with you guys this means stick a wire into both connections (or in other words, short the connections). Correct?

Thanks,
Steve

Yup, usually jumpering the connection means just get them togeter electricaly. I've used wire, cotter pins, etc
