Auto- RX or Amsoil Motor Flush

I bought this 4runner with 104,263 Miles back in Sept of 04. Now it has 106,833 Miles currently. I'd like to go synthetic soon. Im wondering if I should go with the Auto- RX Route or go the amsoil route with the 15min flush and go straight to Amsoil 5w-30 syn oil. I dont know if the previous owner changed out any of the other fluids other than the motor oil cuz at that time of purchase the oil was yellow.

I did the AutoRX on my '95 at about 215K. I used to use Gunk Motor Flush (kerosene type) once a year on a VW Golf back in the 80's. The rods loosened up at only 70K miles. I am not a proponent of kerosene type flushes. The AutoRX seemed to do exactly what it said it would do without thinning the oil.

Auto RX is fine but a bit pricey - If you can find a quart of Lubriplate CFL oil, use that, as it's one of the best engine cleaners going.

I did the Auto RX treatment and the only thing I noticed was a small chunk of tarnish that is now missing from the oil fill baffle plate. That tells me that it must have done some other things elsewhere in the engine. I did not notice any measurable difference in MPG or power.

Hope that helps. I guess it is ok. :dunno:

I can only attest to the Auto-Rx, as that is the only product I have used.
I didn't get a noticeable gain in MPG, BUT upon my second 'cleaning', the engine started running MUCH smoother and without hesitation.

I have 159k on the clock and it runs like a charm. I am now finishing my 2nd 'rinsing' now getting ready for full synthetic.

I am on my 700 miles engine cleaning phase with Auto-rx and I can already noticing my engine running smoother. I still have another 800 miles to go and after that a second cleaning treatment. I will update when done. Also added Auto-rx to the transmission. I totally belive in Auto-Rx

also Auto-rx liquifies the dirt inside the engine. Auto-rx cleans slowly and that is better as well. With all those other flushing cleaners it just takes 15 minutes to clean stuff and they do not liquify the dirt so maybe they could clog your oil pump. Everything in Auto-Rx is natural as well no complex chemicals.
IMHO it is well worth the money! and if you join the Auto-Rx forum I believe they discount $3 bucks per bottle. www.auto-rx.com (engine)

what are these rinses anyway?...is it like that gunk out rinse toyota will tell you to avoid since its basically kerosene with some oil or is it some new and improved stuff....?

CynicX 01-07-2005 09:52 AM

nevermind i found its comprised of a lanolin, which is in most facial cleansers...polyol which contains a couple alcoholic hydroxyl groups.....and aliphatic ester...
