60k Maintenance

I have put a ton of miles my 4Runner since I got it in March of '01. Well, I am at 52k miles right now so the 60k service will be here before I know it. I plan on replacing my oil, transmission fluid, and differential fluid at 60k with Amsoil, but I am curious what else you guys would recommend? Fuel filter maybe? The service manual is kind of vague and it doesn't ever recommended a tranny fluid change, so I am not putting much stock in it. I had NGK platinum plugs installed at 30k so they should be fine. Suggestions?

I would, Change all fluids, Replace Spark plugs, wires, Cap and rotor, air filter, Pcv valve and replace your fuel filter. Check your belts too and replace if needed. Shouldn't cost much and won't take long at all.

Caps and rotors, whats that? Also, any recommendations for some good quality/performance plug wires? Thanks.

Distributor cap and the rotor goes insde of the Distributor. I just bought the Wells wires. They have a lifetime gurantee and they are cheap.

Third gens don't have a cap and rotor, they have a DIS, or distributorless ignition system. Depending on how hard you drive it I would changing your timing belt between 60-90k miles. Toyota says the fuel filter is a never change item, I may do mine eventually, but I doubt it needs it at 60k. As far as plugs go you may just want to pull one from the drivers side and see if you have any electode erosion, since the drivers side wears faster than the passenger side.

Fatty,
Thanks for correcting me! I don't know much about the new Tacomas. Sorry Matt for the bad info.!

No problem, that stuff about the DIS is if you have the 5VZFE, I'm not sure about the 3VZ. BTW, it wouldn't hurt to change your wires, and if you do go with Toyota ones, but I have 70k on mine and I haven't changed mine and don't notice a difference.

I don' t know about the 3rd gens, but my 2nd gen needs the timing belt replaced every 60k. Lube all the zerk fittings, check brakes. Maybe flush brakes.

kick the tires, slam the doors.
