2002 Sequoia Oil Pressure

Hi all...new to the forum. I have a 2002 Sequoia (SR5 4x4). Have a question concerning the oil pressure. Noticed oil pressure jumping from low to high (and everywhere in between) during normal driving. Took to Toyota dealership for service and they said that this was normal. Any comments??? is this normal. Appreciate any help.

thanks

I know the mechincal based oil pressure gauges will tend to move around depending on engine load.

However, steady cruising on the highway, you should see a fairly steady oil pressure (I believe) since oil pressure should be fairly stable after 4krpm. All my findings are from my sports car when it was heavily modified. I would see the oil pressure jump up as I accelerated in the lower rpms. At the mid to high rpms, it was fairly stable around 65psi (even with mild boost).

If it's bouncing around, it may be the connection for the gauge (probably electronic gauge). Just have the dealer (or yourself) check the engine bay and underneath the truck for any signs of oil leaks. It's always good to double check so nothing catastrophic happens.

The bouncing needle on the oil pressure gauge doesn't sound normal. I'll ask my buddy if his Sequoia has the same behavior.

2002 Sequoia Oil Pressure

I remembered that the oil pressure guage started doing this right after we took in to get an oil change at a Jiffy Lube. I took it in yesterday to Toyota, and got another oil change. It appears that this has fixed the problem. Not sure if there is a difference between the toyota oil filters and what Jiffy Lube would use (i know it was not a toyota genuine part.) that would cause this eratict jump in pressure. But things appear to be working now

Have the connections checked. usually thats the case. But i have replaced a sending unit in a sequoia for erratic oil psi readings.
I belive it was at idle. The reading would drop to 0 then come back to base psi. Good luck, kxpaul
