Ok guys, like an idiot i ran my 87 22re 3 quarts low(yea, i know), and now its toast, i can hear a bearing chirp every once in a while, its knocking like crazy and barely had enough power to get up my driveway. From what ive read my top end should be fine, and i should only need to replace the shortblock. Im trying to find out what year engines i can be looking at, ive read that the pre 85 engines have a different deck hight and different pistons, but does that mean ivan use any 22re block from 86-95? And does it need to be from a pickup/4runner or are the car 22re's the same thing? Ive searched and am just not having much luck with the answers so if you guys could help point me in the right direction or just give me a straight answer i would really appreciate it. Also if anyone live near big bear/highland and has a used or rebuilt motor please let me know.
