Motor swap help???
What's up guys? Hey I am new to the toyota world and recently got a 94 4runner on a trade. The 4runner is very clean but it is a 3.0 V6 with an auto tranny. It seems to run fine has new gaskets and water pump and all that stuff. I want to know if you guys think I should swap out the motor or just put a 5 speed in it. I use it for going off road but don't like the auto and have heard lot's of bad stuff about the 3.slow as some would say. I know a lot of people are doing the 3.4 liter swap but seems kinda spendy. Could you guys give me some info and maybe advice I guess about what motor I should go with? Also I am wanting to level out the rear and was thinking either the FJ C rear coils or the OME rear springs. If I do this can I just put the coils in or do I need to do other things too? Thank you guys for any help at all.

The 3.4 is the most popular swap for the 3.slow, but some others here have used other engines like a 7MGE, but either way the swap is expensive. If you really want to do a swap just start collecting the parts needed a little at a time until you have everything you need to start the swap.
|
Some people are also doing a 1uzfe (lexus v8) swap.
For any swap I would recommend getting a wrecked vehicle that has the engine that you want, still has a intact engine bay with a running engine. This way you will have all of the efi components you will need for the swap, and you will know that the engine you are putting in ran correctly before the swap. |
So roughly could you guys give me a figure on price minus the motor. Also I read you have to use parts from the 3.0. Can you guys tell me more about this or send me a link to a past post. I'm sure there has to be one lol. I really appreciate the help guys.

Thank you very much for that. Any info on the rear spring swap?

I used HD ome coils in my 97 and was very happy with them. I could load it down with weight and it still didn't sag. The rear springs for a 94 may be different but the suspension is coil spring on both vehicles.

Any info on the rear spring swap?
I've been driving my Runner with just the cruiser springs for a a few years now. Honestly, the caster on the front end alignment is kinda sketchy. I'm told that the ball joint spacers that I have will correct this though. I just haven't put em on yet. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y24...reafter002.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y24...rings-comp.jpg Good luck. |
So if I go with just the OME heavy duty 1.5 inch rear springs to level it out can I just swap the springs or do I have to change other things too?
|
I have the medium rate Old Man Emus and love them. They level out the ride height, allow you to full load with minimal sag, and ride nicely when unladen.
All in all, a good choice. |
So were you able to just buy the springs and put them in with out any other parts?

hello. hope im not repeating something. im doing a swap right now. but i have the 3.0 engine and am putting a new 3.0 engine back in. sounds stupid. but i got it for a good price and very low miles. is there anything special about taking out the engine ? like special tools or procedures.
|
So is there like a kit I can buy or can you tell me what I would need. I really hate this sag.
|
|
that must be for the other dude.

When I did 2.5 inch ome lift I did not level the pan hard or raise the portioning valve. I could not tell that the rear axle was to one side. I understand the geometry but didn't see the need. I also found that the braking was still not bad, and the rears would still lock up if I pushed hard enough on the pedal. Other people however have had different results in braking and handling, also the braking system may be larger on a 97.
I did use a extended brake line because I went with longer shocks. I made my own brake line bracket out of 3" x 1" x 1/8". I drill two holes and used a scrap bolt and nut. |
So is there somewhere I can get the brake line the new plate to move the valve and a kit to level out the pan hard
|
If your going to use the OME 1.5 springs to level it out you shouldn't need any thing else.
