help with engine swap
 

OK im new here and I seriously need some advice. I have a 1986 pickup 4wd with 22r engine, manual choke and manual trans. I am wanting to replace with an engine to give me some more power. Here's the kicker, I only have a few days maybe a week to do the swap so i am looking for an engine to basically drop in, bolt up and be ready to go with no fabricating needed. The truck is in tennessee where I will be for about a week over the holidays. Gonna try to do the swap and drive it back here to cali. And all this with a broken hand...yaaayyyy. So if anyone knows of any engines that are direct fit and will give me some more HP and torque please let me know. Oh yeah, dont wanna spend more than about 1500 on the swap

Your price seems a little low, normally by the time you get done with everything it is a little higher. Also it takes most people more than a week and they don't have a broken hand. I would just drive it back to california and then do the engine swap. The common swaps are 22re, 2rz, 3rz, 5m, 7m, 5vz, and 1uz......well in the toyota flavor that is. If you come across the 3.slow V6 run.

well I can go 2500 on the price but was hoping to keep it closer to 1500 so I could add some other stuff also. I would drive it back to cali as is but the engine thats in it probably won't make it. but I could just get a car dolly and tow it back if need be.

The price seems to depend on what you run into during the swap. I would recommend getting a totaled vehicle that has a good running engine for what ever type you decide to go with. This way you will have most of the things you need. Even doing that there may be extra costs like changing timing belts, water pumps and other things you may want to freshen up before the install. Also you may need a different radiator because neither may work. Water and steering lines may be off. You may want to replace the clutch and so on.

If it is a cheap fix I would try to repair the 22r. If it expensive to fix I would tow it back.
If the car is not free or close to it you may want to just buy one in california. I see lots of 1990 - 1995 with V6 and blown head gasket on craigslist for not much money

Only direct fit with more HP will be a 22re or 22ret.

Everything else will require fab and money, which will run you more than $1500 and longer than a week.

still everything wont be direct fit if you go with a 22re of a different year, you'll need to change accessories on the motor so you can use your original wiring harness.
