Grand National Swap???

Hey guys I've got a '91 Standard Cab with a 22RE and a 5 speed. We have several Grand National engines laying around, all intercooled ones, so the turbo's not on top of the engine... Anyone ever put one them in a Yota? I've searched all over for a swap but haven't seen one done yet. I'm thinking of using the 2004R with the stock T-Case. Any ideas are appreciated. Also this truck will be more of a pre-runner than a crawler, Chaos Gen. 2 kit, Deavers, and so on. I also have a 4.3 but it is an older carbureted one that has the old tubular manifolds on it.
Please let me know your thoughts.

The Grand National swap should be essentially the same as a standard Buick 3.8 V6 swap-the oldest swap common to Toyota pickups. The turbo & intercooler will throw a bit of a wrinkle into the mix but it should be negotiable. Also, I wouldn't use a TH200 tranny. First off I don't think a Toyota t-case will bolt up to it. Second, I wouldn't think it up to the task as far as strength. Now, if you meant a 700R4, then I say go for it as long as it isn't one of the first couple years for that tranny, they had well-documented issues.

That turbo'd 3.0 looks like a clean install. Don't think I would turbocharge my 22re though, I'd rather use the 4.3.
yeah I've got other options as far as trannies go, I've got a turbo 400 and a 700. Folks build 200's up for GN drag strip abuse but the adapter would be an issue...

If you can, go the the Turbo400. I think the GN motor is a killer idea, and if I had time/money/knowledge/another car to drive in the mean time, I'd do it.

Well it looks like I'm throwing a stock engine in it to drive for now so other future plans can get underway BUT, I've been calling around and have found the best route for this, so I'm going to start gathering parts for the swap.

The Grand National metric 200 is built alot stouter than a normal one and is capable of being bullet-proof. However, it does not have a removable tail housing/shaft etc. I'm using a 700R4 with an Advance Adapters adapter to the stock T-case. Bowtie Overdrives sells a harness adapter for BOP's to the 700.

So, all the hard stuff is figured out, and the only other hard part is cramming the radiator and intercooler into the engine bay but it's possible, with some cutting. Sweet

Sounds like you're going to have a whole bunch of power. Are you sure the rest of your running gear is up to it? How long until the rear diff goes with that much more juice?

Back to the GN swap. Things are coming together for it and I can't wait. No 4wd, the metric 200, and the TC kit with Deavers. I'm getting close to having all the parts, intercooler and fuel pump are about all that's left. I'm stoked about it and can't wait. In the middle of an LS1/T56 swap into an old Nova right now so it's got me in the mood. I'll keep you guys posted!
