Engine for 86 4runner?

Okay, I cracked the head and the block on my toyota 4runner 22-re engine and i need to replace it. i was looking at a rebuilt 22-re but i want something with more power, any suggestions?

I would suggest sticking with Toyota. Maybe a 3.0 or something like that for more power. Or if you have lots of money check out LCE the produce some pretty powerful toyota engines.

yeah....don't really know where to find that stuff...i'm not a car buff.....yet. i'm tryin to put possibly a 3.4 in there, but i dunno what i need to do.

you're looking at a LOT of expense if you want to put some different engine in there. If you need a lot more power, you should just get a different vehicle with big engine.
Drop a 3.4 in there... and have someone else do it? You're probably talking $5000.

well, it was overheating and i added coolant, got a new thermo, all the good stuff, then it started smoking, then it cracked...i dunno what happened. also, money isn't really a factor cuz my dad wants me to keep this vehicle as it was a gift, so yeah, money not really a factor

well, does anyone know what engine will fit? i'm not exaclt a car buff here...

Adam F 06-01-2008 05:45 PM

The only engine that will fit is another 22re.

If you want something faster, buy a vehicle with a bigger engine.

FYI there are 3 ways to kill a 22re....overheat it, break the timing chain, or run it without oil. You chose death by overheating.
