4.3 vortec swap? help!

I'm sure there's a million threads out there that ask the use questions I'm gonna be asking but I wanna know the difficulty of a 4.3 vortec swap..and what I'm going to need..I just bought a 93 Toyota Tacoma with 79k original miles but no engine..trucks really nice and solid has a 3 inch rough country lift hugger orange..I have a 22re from a 89 that has 120k that I might throw in it to just due to it being allot easier..would a 89 bolt right in and all the cenectors and stuff be the same? I really want to do the 4.3 swap but not sure if I would be able to handle doing it

I have only done one swap , mine. Is it hard ? Depends or your skills and how much $$ you can spend. The wiring to the body chassis for all the gauges to work like stock was the hardest for me . Bought the factory books , i was still overwhelmed . Then one day i under stood it . Easy cheesy now .
If you drove my 4runner you would never know it has a 4.3 . Well except you could pass people uphill.

If pulling a motor out is no big deal to you , then i would say yes you could swap a 4.3 in.

Which 4.3 are going to use ? Some have 160 hp, Some have 195 hp .
Carb or efi
Motor placement Not to far back or forward
Motor mounts buy or make your own
Exhaust buy or make your own
Make gas lines
Make power steering lines
Make your own engine harness or buy one for $400
Wire engine to body electric
Might need to Fab cross member
Drive lines might need to be longer or shorter
What transmission and transfer case are you going to use?
While the engine is out now is the time for an sas if your going to.
Don't just buy an engine , buy the whole car or truck so you won't be missing anything .

Is it worth it ? Mmm Yes . It was fun. If i were to do mine all over again . I would rethink a toy 3.4 ( easer). Or newer vortex v8. Cause mine runs great and i get 13 / 16 mpg Might as well have a v8. . But my 4runners heavy #5000

Hope this helps.

I am on the hunt right now for a V8 LS engine to put in my 89 4Runner. I have two in my daily drivers and I know those engines well. I would like to see what kind of mods you have to make. Make sure to keep us updated.

I did the 4.3 vortec swap on my 85 and I used Howell EFI wiring harness. There is a wire on the drivers side that says tachometer output signal. Where do I need to splice this wire into to make my tach work?

Buy a factory Toyota electric manual off eBay . Most of them were about $30 when I did mine . Well worth it . There should be a body electric plug around the passenger front kick panel. The book will tell you which wire on the plug to tap into . Not sure about a v6 going to a 4cy rpm gauge , you might need to add something .

The guy at Howell efi said the rpms would match

I thought maybe I could find the hot wire for the tach in the wiring harness and splice into it there, I guess not though
