1988 toyota 22re engine swap
ok im new to this forum stuff but i just bought a 1988 toyota pickup with a 22re and not satisfied with the powerthat it puts out its a great truck other wise but wanted some info on witch would be a better (more power and more practical) for my yota ive seen a couple inline fours (cumins) going the diesel route, or just going the chevy small block 350 any help would be apreciated thanks

just some other info its a 1988 pick up 22re 4 speed manuel transmission 3 inch body lift 179k miles on it snagged it for 2500 everything in great condition just want to beef it up

I say keep the 22re. It makes no power to speak of but thats the beauty of it, it never dies. you can spruce it up a bit, headers, cam etc. PS loose the body lift. thanks on the reply its just getting on the highway and not being able to get to speed really frustrating any sugestions what i could do to give it a lil pick up i plan on putting the right gears in it but im waiting to get a sas axle from my brother before i do that |
the reason i asked about the diesel also is i work at a diesel shop and got old cummins just sitting around waiting to be pulled

Short of a bigger engine I do not think the 22re will ever PULL like you want it to. Go for the cummins. I still vote 22re
