So far in my rig:
tool set in blow moulded case
multibit screwdriver set
rope
straps
shackles
come along (heavy duty)
cooler with refreshments
muskol
afterbite
bumperjack
20 ton bottle jack
shovel
spotlight
depending on whether there's a chance I'll get really stuck somewhere far in, camping gear and food for my dogs

what's to come?

hatchet
chainsaw
more straps
more shackles

these are all kept in rubbermade totes and strapped down (especially the idiot makers like the jacks and shovel. Don't need one of those in the back of the head after a sudden stop)

I know it looks a little excessive, but my uncle got stuck in Death Valley once and had to hike out in the early 80s in July. Still has scars on his lower legs from the eyelets burning through his socks from the heat.

Lesson learned: I'd rather be over-prepared than under-prepared. At least you can be the guy that people at camp come to for help because you have EVERYTHING but a welder, which I'm looking into, haha.

Wheeling in the mountains of southern AZ there's not always something to hook a come along or winch to so I started packing a "circus tent" tie down stake and sledge.

Wink Must have wheelin goodies to have on board when going deep

I am in the process of putting together a mostly metric toolbox for my 4x4 Yote and thought it would be a good time to ask what others have on board for deep woods wheelin adventures. I have been replacing a lot of parts and decided to keep some for backup parts rather than trade them in for core cash. Some of the items I kept are a distributor, plug wires, pcv, rotor & cap, some hose, fuel filter etc. I started thinking that it would be good to carry plenty of water and extra fuel too, but this is more about what you guys have to add rather than what I am considering. I want your, (the experienced wheeler's) ideas and tips to help arm my trail crawler. Thanks for taking the time to help out!

Well obviously it mostly has to do with how well its built. Rigs that are done right can be hammered on and not have any problems. Every build is different. You have to consider your vehicles weak points. But if you are aware of these weak points then you should be doing somthing about them before you go wheeling. So if theres problems that you dont know about, then theres only so much you can do. Short of carrying an extra rig in back of your rig theres a limited amount of preparation you can do. There is a fine line between extra parts in case you break, and having 2000lbs of extra parts that causes you to break.

I say a good tool box (full set, sockets, wrenches, screw drivers, tire repair options, hose clamps, ect) Is good enough. You really dont look like somone who is confident in there rig when your carrying a gen, welder, engine hoist, spare axle, moter, drivline, 2 spares, and a donkey just in case. Just kidding of coarse.

But it honestly depends on your rigs weak points. Where did you skimp? Whats ready to go out. Because you cant carry an extra truck, you need to carry basic tools. And communicate with the group your wheeling with about there tools. This way you dont have to double up on everything but can have more of everything.

But,, basic small spare parts if i had to suggest some:
U-joint ( cause any u-joint can go bad)
fuses
spare wheel/tire
roll of paper towels ( keep them dry )
and whatever else you might think ya need

Recovery:
Big ratchet straps (ask me why)
block & tackle
small length of 3/8'' chain with hooked ends
tow rope ( dont skimp)
winch ( duh )
atleast 25' of spare cable
come a long
shovel, axe, at least a hand saw
hi-lift jack
some blocks of wood ( hi-lifts tend to sink)
