look'n for a new recovery strap...

It's kinda aggravating being on a trail in my Yote and when other people need to be pulled out and don't have a rope, and of course neither do I, we have to find someone that dose to use theirs! :bang:

So it's strap shop'n time! What are some suggestions you guys can offer? I don't want something that's gonna break on the first pull, but I'm not look'n to spend a small fortune on just a rope.

I'm hoping to only spend around maybe $50 for a decent one to keep in the tool box of the truck. Around 20 ft would be plenty (enough to get a rolling start if a good snatch is needed).

Has anyone ever heard of Amsteel Blue?

I found a recovery strap on eBay made of the stuff; claims to have a break strength of 50,000lbs!

Appears to be pretty good and is right in my price range. Any thoughts or oppositions?

Just curious, cuz a good rope would be nice to have ya know.

Thanks in advance guys!

sounds like to much money to me... harbor freight has good deals sometimes

That's a tow rope/winch extension NOT a recovery strap!

Recovery straps are designed to stretch to minimize the impact load on the vehicles, thereby preventing damage.

I have ARB, ProComp, and no-name recovery straps, they all seem pretty equivalent to me ...

I got 2 of mine from Tractor Supply. Ive had them for about 3 or 4 years now. They've held up nice.

Recovery straps, unless you are incredibly diligent, take serious abuse and eventually have to be replaced.

Buy two of these, and just replace them on a regular basis (ie, whenever they start to fray)

I got mine at home depot and its served me well.

just make sure you dont have metal hooks on the end. you want loops.
this is what i have and i love it. http://www.google.com/products?q=pro...&hl=en&show=dd

I have a harbor freight special as well, has served me well :)

Ight, cool guys, thanx for all the great info and suggestions. I guess I did post in the wrong section; got moved, my bad. I wish Harbor Freight had a little thicker one; I was hoping for at least a 3 inch wide strap, but I guess they should serve their purpose well. Good prices too. Now I just have to decide 20 or 30 ft, lol.

A 2" x 20' is a good start. If you go too big, you won't get the benefit of the stretch.

Be sure to pick up some shackles and make sure you have a way to hook the strap up in the front and the rear of the vehicle.

This is a very good article regarding straps breaking points

I just ordered a 2" by 30' Super Strap. I won't get to see it for another couple of months, but after having to fight with hooking up normal recovery straps and getting them loose again over hear in the desert on Humvees, the Super Strap looked ideal. When it comes to stuff like that, I don't want to skimp.

95RunnerSR5 Sep 27, 2008 02:23 PM

i use a 1.5" nylon double braid rope about 25 feet long... you can tug on it as hard as you want but it feels like you're pulling with a bunjie cord

muddpigg Oct 8, 2008 09:20 PM

I have a smittybuilt 3"x30', don't spend to much on your strap, but don't skimp too much neither. I need to replace mine now becuase I helped a family get unstuck and pulled their broken down zuki so they could get cell reception. The road played hell on my strap.

Well most people seem are overly grateful for a helping hand but not so much to replace the equipment that gets worn past servicibility doing lending that hand. Oh, well next time they can sit there and we'll call some one for them with long/lat coordinates:)
