Relocating mounts
 

Looking into doing Chevy 63" rears and RUFs. But can't find a single thing that gives a clear number on what distance the leaf spring mounts need to be moved exactly. I want to know if both the mounts for the rear axle need moved and how much, and if the front mounts both need moved or just the actual very front hanger or just the frame tubes on the front. So basically what needs moved and how much for RUFs and rear Chevy 63"s

I could be wrong but I believe that I read somewhere that the front hanger for the rear has to be moved 11" forward. And then you can put the rear where ever you want for the amount of lift through the shackle.

The front requires a spring hanger, If i remember from my research, and you will need the Tube/jig kit for the rear of the front hanger if it is an original ifs frame.

To run RUF's you can use the stock front spring hanger and a 5" shackle. For the rear Chevy springs I think the actual measurement to move them is about 7" but I never measured. Had 63's and RUF's on my last rig. worked great. Mix and match front leafs for desired lift. The Chevy's give you about a 2"-3" lift. Plan on doing High Steer if you run RUF's cause it really moves the axle forward. You can always to the J-arm mod to get by though moving the steering ball to the top of the arm.

It depends on what year truck you have. The easy answer is No both mounts dont need to be moved. However, if you want your wheel to line up in the wheel well, then yes, both mounts need to be moved. Heres the info on Low ranges site

There are alot of 63 threads floating around, do a little searching.

As for the RUFs, if your sasing then youll have to move/make new mounts anyway, so just us a tape measure. If your trucks a factory soild axle, just get some boomerang shackles and theyll fit.

Low range has Chevy install instruction in the link I posted, and TG has SAS instructions listed on their site.

On my 88 I moved the front forward 11" and the rear I "THINK" is 4" back. I bought rear hangers and butted them up against the back of the stock rear hangers.


Beware that the Chevs use 9/16" bolts so buy the correct hangers and bushings.
