Leaf spring help!
 

Hey guys… working on my first Toyota build… long story short bought a truck out of a field all running gear pulled had axles at home rebuilt axles and decided to put rears up front and 63s in the rear my issue is that I got a set of rears packed them and bolted it up and my shackle angle is off. Got a second set that were pulled from a 85’ sas rolled truck and they are the same length… my front hangers are welded up flush and the rear shackle mounts right under the body bolt had a couple people look at it and they say it’s all correctly located but my shackles are straight up and down… the guy I got the truck from said he ran 5” trail gear fronts and it was all fine shouldn’t that be factory length? Oh and also the center pin puts the axle really far forward and I feel like the pinion angle is not correct….any help is appreciated!

HI,
Looks like you are going to move the shackle on the frame forward 2 or 3 inches. And the pinion angle is best pointed almost in line with the transfercase so you will have to cut and rotate the knuckles.

Thanks Zuk, although that won’t resolve the axle being to far forward… the guy had it all set up originally before removing all running gear with Trail-Gear 5” springs I guess what I’m trying to ask is what rear Toyota spring do people run to get the correct angles I’ve bought 2 sets now and both measure the same which shoves the axle way to far forward I am going daily this rig and don’t really want the axle sticking way out front plus it creates an issue with my high steer bars crossing so the axle needs moved back a few inches

What if you redrill the hole in the leafpacks? It will truly take a sharp drill bit to get thru that tough spring steel though.

I’ve thought of that… I was just hoping people could take photos of their sas fronts where locations of their stuff is and then exactly what spring they used and the measurements of front to center rear to center and overall… as

Your shackle angle also sucks because you have no weight on it. I had great shackle angle and it looks like yours now that my engine, transmission, t cases and interior are out.

The TG springs are designed to move the axle forward and worked well in my application. I did have to move my steering box forward and lengthen the steering shaft. If you don't, big tires are going to hit your firewall. You can trim forward but, not really backward. Well easily.

I see you said you have RUF. Can you flip them around? Maybe just bite the bullet and get some TG or All Pro springs?? I got mine through Summit Racing and the shipping was WAY cheaper. Not sure if that's still the case.

We talked about flipping them around that’s going to put the full wrap on the rear but measuring it that would put it to far towards the rear… I know people run RUF I just am not sure why I’m having such an issue… I’m planning on running 35s but wouldn’t go larger than 37s… like I said this is my first build the guy was running 5” tg springs and I’m trying to run RUF the only measurements I’m seeing that are off is the center to front eye is about 1 3/4 inch shorter the TG spring would pull me back a hair but not far enough I feel like I got 2 sets of wrong rear springs and was hoping for someone to post pics of their RUF set up with measurements of eye to center front and rear and overall so I can see what’s happening… if no one has much input I’m going to cut off and re weld the steering box forward and run what I have and make it work I have a couple other guys helping me who have built Toyota’s but they are running a lot different spring set ups than what I’m trying to do.
