Idea: 1980's Toyota 1 ton dually ... SAS conversion??

After 5 years of driving a Toyota (first a '94 4runner, now an '87 xcab) I suddenly find myself in need of a bigger truck for work. I got to thinking: Has anyone ever SASed a 1 ton Toyota pickup, which as far as I understand only came 2wd? It seems to me to be the best of all worlds: 1 ton carriage, long bed capacity, Toyota reliability, diesel... and 4 wheel drive with a solid axle in the front.

The issues above and beyond a typical SAS conversion would seem only to be:

Swapping the transmission/transfer case
Custom driveshaft(s)?
Lifting the rear to be level with the front

I am open to comments and ideas, thanks!

Saw something like it in Northern AZ... looked like a smaller camper conversion, but diesel, dually, and 4wd. As far as I remember, dually trucks had a different lug pattern from normal, so that may also be a small obstacle for the front axle.

I think the diesels of the time share the bellhousing pattern of the 22r, and if you are seriously considering doing the work of swapping to 4wd, it may be beneficial to add a crawl box to the mix. Would be kinda like the older full-size diesels with their two speed rear ends, plus you are already gonna have to redo driveshafts.
