I need SAS swap information

I just got a 94 and the ifs went out, so I decided I'm going to put a solid axle in it. I was wondering what options there are for front axles, probably going to put leafs in the front and 35" tires at most. I do not plan on any extreme wheeling. I was also wondering what the average cost of doing this is, I plan on doing the fabrication myself. And what alI need for the swap.
Thanks

You need to research this swap big time.....I would use a toyota axle and just buy the SAS kit.....I'll plug LowRangeOffRoad for this one....You need to then think rear suspension, drive line angles, shackle angles. etc.......
Good luck
There's more, but you get my drift.

Welcome, this is a frequently asked question so please use the search function. Really you need to compare cost of fixing IFS vrs SAS. The SAS with gears and drive line mods will be at least 3 grand. fixing your IFS well i have no idea.

The average cost of doing a swap yourself with all made parts is fairly cheap. But if you buy an old Toyota axle, it'll probably need a rebuild so all in all, it'll be around $2000 bucks if you rebuild the diff with no extra goodies. If you know your way around a truck, you can make a nicer kit than what you can buy for sure.

On the other side, if you don't want to wheel it, then just fix the IFS. The money and time you put into the axle swap, you'll never get back so it's not really worth it if you don't plan on wheeling it and using it.

Dont forgot to include tool and material costs- i had to buy grinding wheels, oxy/acetylene gas for torch, sawzaw blades, welding electrodes, pitman arm pullers(went through 3 before i found a good quality one), and other smaller things. I think it was around $300 for materials.

If you have to rebuild axle kits go for $60-$100. Bearings cost even more. High steer kit $300 unless running stock steering. Shock hoops $50 or make your own. Shackle tubes/jugs/front drop hanger $150. Front leaf springs $100-$500 (used vs new). Leaf spring bushings $20-$40. Wheel spacers to match rear ifs width axle $60. It slowly adds up. Figure out what you need vs what you want and find what fits your budget. Cost me $3000-$3500 after tires, tools, axle, and sas parts.

Red face

Read all the threads on Solid Axle swaps !!

Then go to other forums read those as well!!

Weigh the different options then ask some detailed questions.

The first question you should think about is WHY ?

Just how did your IFS Fail??
