Hi! I just purchased an ’87 Xtra Cab 4x4 SR5. Started looking for a mostly stock, 4 cyl, 5 speed, extended cab in great condition several months back but quickly learned that “great condition/low miles” now means really big bucks for these trucks. So I lowered my standards a bit but I’m REALLY happy with the truck I found. It’s a “mostly” 1 owner (1 owner from new until May this year), CA truck from our high desert with zero rust and no body damage/work, 100% stock, well maintained, and runs and drives great! 134k miles. Minuses are a really bad respray many years ago (the side graphics are original; they just taped and masked them off!), really worn seats and a crack in the dash pad, and no AC. I’m actually happy the truck is not pristine, as I plan to use it (but not abuse it), for both hauling stuff and back country exploring. I’ll be working on maintenance and any needed mechanical repairs for now, and will worry about paint and appearance later. I’ll be getting rid of the camper shell; although it looks kinda cool and its high roof design is very practical, I don’t need it. Thanks in advance to this forum for your help and advice going forward. Adam.

Welcome!

You have a pretty nice looking truck! I have always liked the Xtra cab trucks.

It sounds like you are on the right track with wanting to do mechanical repairs and maintenance before cosmetics.

Usually the "really nice" trucks still need quite a bit of work here and there to make and keep them reliable.

I have a bed cap / shell on my truck because there is very little dry storage room when two people are in a regular cab truck.

Feel free to post up more pictures!

Sorry I should of clarified, I wanted to see more pics of your pickup, engine bay, interior, that sort of thing. I'm not in the market for a canopy, as more 4runner came with one lol.

Duh, now I feel dumb. Yes, I'll post more photos later. (Also edited out the CL link; in retrospect that may be against rules and I don't want to get in trouble right off the bat!)

suggest you keep the bed canopy and only remove it when you need to haul large items, it is likely a big part of why the bed is in good shape still

A little wear, but the interior looks pretty darn nice! How do you like those floor mats? I'm really considering them, as the ones I have now only lasted a few months.

Jakey poo those are Lloyd Mats that I got on sale for $40-something for the set; still not exactly cheap. They are custom cut and fit really well. Looks like they will last and the indents should be good for containing dirt and mud. I like them much better than the carpet mats, which don't belong in a truck in my opinion.

Agreed! How long ago did you get them for ~$40, when I looked they were like $60+

AutoAnything. Normally $59 but 20% off. I just checked and that's still the case...
