Washington's Pacific Crest Trail

Has anyone ever ran this. I thought I saw on a show I think was called Northwest Roads them talking about driving the Pacific Crest Trail. It looks to have a trail head near the Snowqualmie ski area. It looks to go all the way into Canada. I am interested in getting a group together to run the trail up into Winthrop Washington. So who's been up there?

Hey! I'm hoping to hike that in a couple years... donju be leavin' no big ole tire tracks on it! :baby:

(can't help ya... the bits of it I've been on are in California, and definitely vehicle unfriendly)

I've run a section of the Pacific Crest trail down here in San Diego... :dunno: It was a small section about 25 miles from the start of the southern trailhead when the trail merged with a jeep trail to get through a mountain pass. Most of the Pacific Crest trail down here is only for hiking. Watch out for those tree huggers. Especially those hiking it from Mexico to Canada.

Tread lightly but carry a big spare! :banger:

As far as I know, the Pacific Crest Trail is 100% foot traffic only in Washington. It crosses the Naches Pass Trail at Government Meadows, but that's as close you are going to get to it in your rig.

I hiked a fair bit of it in my younger years and much of it is single track. I am not sure I would want to drive it even if I could. At Government Meadows, I have crossed paths with some of the left wingers who hike the trail and I found that I didn't have much in common with them nor them with me. They seemed to resent the "intrusion" that my rig presented simply by being there and I didn't like the way they smelled. ;)

Yeah, that patchouli oil and body odor just doesn't sit well with the old schnozz does it? Bleh!

As far as I also know, this is a non motorized trail for hiking only as mentioned, but some parts may be open to rig?
I don't know.

They have a website, but at 5:10 am PST it's down.

If they catch you on it (hiking sections only), the Sierra Club will have a field day, and 4x4'ing will be outlawed in more parts.
Please check into this first before you attempt to tread on their domain.

Foot traffic only

Sorry, the PCT in Washington is foot traffic only. They don't allow even mountain bikes on it, although they allow horses ( and not the ones under your hood.) I believe Oregon is the same. I don't know about California. The rangers are quite aggressive in citing wheeled transportation of any kind.

Thanks for the quick replies. I am glad to hear this from those that know the facts. I didnt want to hear from hikers that hate wheelers and would give me misleading info. Isnt there a trail that is a long drive like this around that area or further northwest? That PCT would be a hella long hike. I was reading where you can mail hiking supplies via usps to the post offices along the way. Thats pretty cool.

I am not aware of a similar 4x4 trail. The other long trail in the area is the "Iron Horse Trail" and it is also foot/bike/equestrian use only... There's plenty of 4x4 trails, but they don't stretch border to border or coast to coast or anything of the kind.
