towing with my 2012 tacoma 4wd sr5 v6 at 4 door..
Hello to all, this is my first post here and am glad to come to such a cool site, i hope i am putting this post in the right spot, but i am wondering about towing. I am scoping out a 1982 4x4 regular length bed as a project. it does roll, but doesnt run, so i was wondering about towing it with my tacoma. it is a 4.0 v6 at double cab in really good shape with all maintenance up to date, it has a reciever style trailer hitch .
I was curious if i left it in 4,not using overdrive, would i be able to pull this truck (weightwise ) with the front end in a 2 wheel dolly if i kept it nice and slow-55 mph ?? I believe the manual says i can pull 3500 lbs which is around what that truck weighs in at by itself i believe , i am not worried about the engine just the transmission. Any tips other than disconnecting the driveshaft- or towing advice in this manner ? BTW its mostly flat here, and its probablly only about 50 miles of a tow haul (give or take 20 miles) i believe. Thanks guys !!! -J.W:guitar: |

Looks like this should have been posted in the Newbie section, not Trip Planning.
I'd tow it. |

Btw. You can tow 6500 lbs if you have the tow package components like the oil cooler trans cooler beefed up alt/battery.... Ect....
