Iron Chest has been improved!!!
After fishing at Hancock Lake this weekend, I decided to check out Iron Chest. There was a post on another board that said it had been improved. Sure enough! All the boulders have been moved off the trail. The only difficult section now is near the top.

That really blows! I had a great time on that trail, now it is mostly a highway from the looks of the pics.
Is there still a tippy section after the rock garden at the start? The was the last thing that I remember being tough on there. Any justification for this, or was it a just because sort of thing? |
Iron Butterfly, Iron Panzie, Iron Kettle, Iron Maiden ROCKS!
Martinez is still as rocky as ever and the weather is going to be great in a month or two. |
Oh Great! Another trail made powder puff :( Such a crime! It was just fine the way it was!

:dunno:
Why would they do that? Alan, do you have any "before & after" pics of similar sections so we can see the difference? John |
John, Alan has some pics linked in the CO4RJ thread of Iron Thong at the garden up to that shed like he posted.
Here is one, I will look for another from my collection. http://pics.montypics.com/Flygtenste...60_IC_Me_2.jpg http://pics.montypics.com/Flygtenste...IC_Trail_1.jpg |
CHEESE !!!
Is the rock garden in Martinez (The Holy Land) harder? Rember you bent your lower link there. NOT in Colorado. Adrian has seen the Holy Land. We need to take you to JACK HANDLE. http://skullandcrossbones.org//images/jollyroger.gif |
Noting that Arizona trails, Colorado trails and even Wisconsin trails are fundamentally dis-similar...
Martinez is still the most kick ass trail I have ever done because it is pretty much continuous obstacles. No time to blow out tires on little rocks, no time to BS about bad spotting, just lots of rocks, a turn and then more rocks. Usually at the bottom of a canyon with little more around than rocks. Iron Thong was close though, at least the first part which is a good chunk of it. With the exception of it being a shelf at parts, it almost made me think of Arizona. I would love to do Jack Handle. I may need to make a return tour over Christmas and after the first of the year to talk with Prof's and now that I know how to get to those trails.... :D |
You'll want to go with Mark and me again. Jack is Evil. We'll need to go as a group, besides Chinamans JH is the ONLY trail I have ever seen Mark struggle on in AZ.
Marmot can count on a little Jack if here ever comes out here. Jack is Evil. |
Flygt-
Admission to CO University in your immediate future? :) Lee |
Steve, I would of course need the services of the expert guides that accompanied me previously. Not to mention it might actually be only double digit temps.
If Marmot goes down there, it would be great to catch some trails with him too. If not, then Jack and Woodpecker would be great. Lee, admission is not in my immediate future, but I am leaning hard towards coming out that way. Now I am polluting my mind with GRE prep stuff and working on an appropriately true, but polished personal goals and objectives cover letter to solicit recommendations from my profs here. |
Back to this thread's orginal topic: Boy are there going to be some ticked of wheelers in Colorado! I can't believe they did that!! :eeek:
|
Why was this done?
Has any justification been offered? I remember hearing about some trails out there getting obstacles blown apart after people were getting hurt and frequent roll overs, but what about this one? |

Woodpecker was cool with the obstacles (well, except for that funky formation that was REAL tippy), but by far Martinez is the prettiest, most fun filled trail I have ever been on... October maybe? BOT, it's a shame the trail mentioned was made in to a freeway. Mike |
