East Coast Fall Colors Ride

Anything planned yet? I may back east in time for one this year.

jacksonpt 08-20-2003 07:31 AM

Last I heard (on the 4x4wire board), they were planning a bunch of events all along the coast. One in PA, one in NC, one in GA, maybe on in OH, maybe another in KY. There are so many people who go to these things, it's hard to find a place that is reasonably close to everyone. I think rather than doing one east coast fall colors run, they are doing more of a "East Coast Get Out And Wheel That Sucker" weekend.

Not sure if any dates have been set though.

TDiddy 08-20-2003 07:38 AM

Wow, cool. I looked and posted on there this morning but didn't see anything in the trailride section.

Looked again and found stuff in the main SUV forum.

FWIW, we can start a discussion here too. I'd be interested in the PA run; if I move back there it will be in the Allentown/Philly area.

Ditto on the run - only if the warden gives me a pass or tags along...

I'm hoping to make the fall colors run. I couldn't make it to the East Coast 4R Jamboree because I was on vacation in Mexico. Keep us informed.

For those of you who might care... Me and a buddy are hoping to get to Paragon in about a month. If anyone is interested, you're welcome to tag along. Probably be running harder greens and easier blues.

PAhydrohead 08-22-2003 05:32 AM

Jackson,

I would be interested in going to Paragon. Keep me informed of your plans. I have never been to Paragon so where do green and blue fall in the "hard factor" scale of things? I assume red would be the hardest with green/blue being on the easy side of things. Makes no difference to me as long as you're not planning on running something like the Hammer trails out in California. I have a rear locker and 32s which have taken me through some pretty rough trails. Just wanted to know what to expect. Hopefully in the new few weeks I'll have a new custom rear bumper/tire carrier. Still trying to decide who is going to make it though.

man i really want to go to paragon again. the jambo was a lot of fun. if it wasn't 14+ hrs away, i'd think about going. i might think about it anyways. might be a fun road trip if it is on one of my vacations. let me know.

btw, i ran green 3's and blue 1-2's with my taco sitting on 225/75/15s. had about 2" lift. basically stock. its pretty much the same now but with 32x11.50s. in a month i should have another inch or so of lift after i drop my front diff. i think you'd be fine hydrohead... especially with a locker.

so let me know if you are going, im up for some good wheelin' ... but there is actually a low chance i will be able to make it. :(

maybe something closer??? mass area? conneticut maybe? i could turn it into a "college viewing trip"

Greens are the easiest, then blues, then blacks, then reds. Each color then has a number associated with it (1, 2, or 3). So for example, a green 2 is easier than a green 3 which is easier than a blue 1, and so on. I generally run green 2-blue 2 trails. The blues give my rig all it can handle.

I'm waiting to hear from a buddy. He and his wife are expecting their first baby, and he had some work to do on his jeep before he could make the trip. When I hear from him, I'll let you know.

rowan 09-04-2003 03:52 PM

yup blue 1-2's were about all i could take, especially with those tiny tires. blue 3's start to get pretty hard i think...

its probably a good thing to have a guide there because they know the good trails so you dont end up going down a blue 1 that is really as hard as a blue 3 or something like that.....

so are all you coming to the jambo next year? i guess it is a long ways away still...

TStango 09-08-2003 08:42 AM

I would be interested too. Please keep us posted Jackson.

Where is Paragon BTW?

Just looked on map quest and it says I'm 4 hours away from Pittsburgh. If Paragon is somewhere near there I might be game. Not too sure yet though.

PAhydrohead 09-08-2003 11:33 AM

Paragon is near Hazelton, PA which is at least 4+ hours east of Pittsburgh. Hazelton is just south of the intersection of I-80 and I-81.

Check out www.paragonap.com for more info.

I couldn't make it to the EC4R J they just had there but I'm hoping someone sets up a trip to Paragon soon!

AznSky 09-08-2003 12:57 PM

Hmm..I gues that counts me out. No way I can make two 8 hour drives in one weekend, and also wheel for one whole day.

rowan 09-08-2003 06:12 PM

for the jambo i did two 14 hour drives, plus wheeling in between.

its worth it when you don't really have any good places to wheel.

jacksonpt 09-09-2003 03:49 AM

how many people are seriously interested? If we were to plan a trip to the park, say towards the end of the month, who would be interested in going? We need 3 rigs in the group, otherwise we have to pay for a guide ($100+). We could just wander our way around the park... the maps are pretty decent and the trails are well marked.

Who's interested?

TStango 09-09-2003 05:13 AM

I'm definitely interested. My weekends are open for the rest of the month. I'm dying to use my new digital video camera too.:bounce:

jacksonpt 09-09-2003 05:19 AM

I checked Paragon's calendar. They are full the weekend of the 27th-28th, then pretty much open until the end of october. I was thinking maybe first weekend of Oct.

Unless you all wanted to go the weekend of the Sept. 20 basically 10 days from today). Would this be a wheeling/camping weekend, or a day trip?

TStango 09-09-2003 06:04 AM

I can't do the first weekend in Oct. My friend's stag is on the 4th and I'm in the wedding party, so I have to go. September 20 works and so does any other weekend in October except for the 4th(stag) & 18th(his wedding). That's just me though. Whatever works for everyone else.

I would prefer to make a weekend out of it. Anyone else?

rowan 09-09-2003 08:51 AM

the weekend thing might work for me. i really want to go. ill just wait to figure things out when you guys decide when you are going.

there is a campground right near by that we could stay at, i forget what it is called but i have the phone number still.
