Best Maps including Dirt and 4x4 roads/trials

I'm looking at my maps from AAA and they don't include some of the trail heads I found while camping in Pinecrest. Who makes the best maps so that while planning a trip I can include some trails?!?!

Thanks,
Steve

Not exactly what I'm looking for, but I'll look into getting that book. I've tried finding 4x4 trail books at the local Borders. The guy couldn't find a one. Is 4x4books.com the only place to get them?

If your in a national forest then you can get maps from the ranger station for about $4 I think. They are not always up to date, but they do show most dirt and 4WD roads. If you are not in a national forest then I've heard good things about DeLorme (sp?) atlases but I have no personal experience with them.

EDIT:
Also most ranger stations have information about off-roading in the forest. Usually there is a ranger responsible for this so you may want to ask for that person specifically. A lot of times they will have free photocopied maps of common 4 wheeling routes. You can also get limited information on-line. Check out this site.

Do you have a Hastings, books and music store? I saw a trails maps book a while back but didnt get it. I ended up going to the USFS and bought a state map that has all of the trails on it.

Delorme Atlases are the best.

I agree, the DeLamore Atlas & Gazetteer Series are the best I've seen. The link will take you to DeLorme's sample map site. Pick either Northern or Southern California to see a sample.

I prefer DeLorme maps. If you're near an REI store, they carry USFS maps as well.

We don't have a Hastings around here. I like the idea of buying the whole state map! I'll have to do that next time I'm in a NF. I'll also pick up a DeLorme map of NorCal for now.
