what should i pay: damaged 95 4runner

my buddys mom has a 95 4runner sr5 130k 5sp. all stock.. and about 2 years it was hit while parked and the passenger front wheel took most the impact and its pushed back about an inch. and fender bumper are gonna need replaceing. what do you guys think is a fair price. the paints in good shape but i think some water got inside and has a little bit of mold

ive been eye balling it for awhile and im just not quite sure what its worth.

ThatGuy1295 01-09-2012 06:30 PM

Guessin its 3VZ? Nice tires at least? Thats pretty low miles for 95. If the interior and all that is nice id at least want 4-5K for it personally. But bein the buyer look for anything else wrong with it of coarse, might be able to knock it down a little.

Have you checked blue book yet? Just wondering.

runs-on-4 01-09-2012 06:38 PM

4-5k, really? she was quoted at about 2300 to fix it i havent really looked at the front suspension damange but im pretty sure its gonna need most the ifs stuff replaced. tires arnt great but thats the least of my worries. kbb didnt really help because of the damage.

ThatGuy1295 01-09-2012 06:49 PM

Sorry, the suspension damage part didn't click until just now. Ya much lower. Was thinkin body damage only for some resein. Workin with that price quote I would want 2-2500K for it. Once its fixed it will be worth at least 4K again. Long as you don't spend more than 5K buying and fixing I think your in good shape. Anything hire and you might as well just buy a nice 4runner with no damage.

dropzone 01-09-2012 07:08 PM

$1k...

bobby_duce 01-09-2012 07:40 PM

just tell them it would be worth 3-4k in good running condition and its been quoted it has $2,300 worth of damage so if you really really want it tell them $1000. you could be opening a big can of worms with front end damage but if you can get it for cheap id say you have a good candidate for a sas!

Moonfish 01-09-2012 07:47 PM

WTH, $200. The junkyard might go 200 and charge to tow it away. kbb don't mean squat in a case like this. Call the junkyard up and see what they would pay. That would seem to be your competition.

It was probably totalled by insurance. Some people wouldn't want because of mold. Front end damage would make it a no deal for others. Some would fix and need a complete paint job to make everything match again and $ wise, that doesn't work.

BoredOutnJackdUp 01-09-2012 08:19 PM

Yeah i'd say around 800-1200 depending...

ThatGuy1295 01-09-2012 08:29 PM

Ya you could make it sound that way, but try.... just try to imagine the value from a builders, and non builders perspective. Its not just what you can get away with but................ wait a second what am I saying? Ya tell her you save her money by takin it away. Then SAS it. Yes yes yes

runs-on-4 01-09-2012 08:45 PM

i was thinking around 1800 for it cause its pretty clean my plan was to buy it fix it then sell my truck so i can afford to sas it...

For wheel impacts.. This is what bends before anything else.

ThatGuy1295 01-10-2012 07:33 PM

You might be a lot better off then you think. This is a bolt on part you can get one from the junk yard. Then a 50$ alignment from les schwa and your set. I have personally bent lots of those wheeling. There was never any damage to anything else. Despite it massive drawbacks in wheeling ability, the IFS is really tough.

And wash that thang will ya...

i can see that... any idea of how hard of a fix this would be by looking at the picture?

start at $200 work your way up to max $500 .. you can get those parts all day at any junkyard , at least around here.

DeathCougar 01-10-2012 11:01 PM

Those 4Runners are NOT worth $4-$5k even in MINT condition. Anyone who would pay that much is a fool.

You can get those things on CL with bad engines for $800-$1500 every day. Multiple 4Runners on CL. I would say $500-$1000 MAX.

Consider that is has been sitting for a very long period of time too. If it was worth thousands, it wouldn't have been sitting that long. Its got rust, it needs a MAJOR detail, its moldy, the gas is probably bad, etc etc. Again, keep in mind the amount of money you will have to put into this thing, and then keep in mind its a 3.0L with 134k. You won't ever get back out what you put in with a 2nd gen 4Runner

ThatGuy1295 01-11-2012 05:42 AM

Depending on how rusty those bolts. But easy. Just 2 bolts in the back and the ball joint.

dropzone 01-11-2012 07:15 AM

DC has great points.
When was the last time they started it?

My neice paid $1500 for a nice fully loaded running, straight 95 4runner last summer with 150 k on it. Only thing I did to it was put p/s pump on it for her.

Regarding this 4Runner, I'd say you're right. but for a low mileage, no rust, MINT 4Runner. I'd say they're worth the low 4k range, no problem.

and with any car, you wont get back what you put into it.

Regarding the OP. I'd say its worth anything from $500-$1000, tops. it seriously needs some work, body and mechanical damage. wont hurt to offer a low amount, you might just get lucky... you can part that thing out for more than a grand.
