opinions on sunwest automotive engine
I'm thinking about having Sunwest rebuild my engine I live in the Cleveland Ohio area and no one around here I would trust to rebuild my motor I've checked out oregon, and 22re performance. Mike at Sunwest said I could ship him my engine to get rebuilt so I can keep it original total price for a supreme engine rebuild with the larger.head casting rv cam and valves with shipping there and back is only 1800 . Sunwest are really friendly and I love the fact the test the motor before shipping. And he said if something minor happens they will pay someone out here to fix it instead of shipping it back 30 month 30 thousand mile warranty. What's your guys opinion on this. Thank you

sounds good dont go with oregon too many horror stories and they suck
Yea from reading a couple other threads they don't sound to reliable.
I've had mine for 17,000 miles Great performance,no issues at all.No oil consumption.Mike will get right on the phone or email you back in minutes.Just remember to re torque the head to there instructions.Check with mike on this.
Yea he seems like a straight forward guy and I think that's a great price did you get the supreme with the cam and stuff
Thats the one I went with.
Sweet man thanks for your input keep me posted on how your motor is doing
Just follow mikes instruction on break in and re-torque of the head.I did the break in with castrol, and then switched to mobil 1 10-30.OEM plugs, rotor and cap.Valve adjustment is very critical.

Look at my avatar,Two weeks on the beach min each year in deep sand, loaded and in 4wd, and at the farm all winter, off road pulling farm equipment.I dont abuse it but,the thing runs great.I've got 31x10.5x15 on it and it gets up and go's.
Yea he said to re torque and adjust at 500 miles
Hell yea that's a Sharp looking rig I'm not doing anything to mine till I'm done with the motor
He gave me the brand of parts for the componets that was the main reason I went with him,and he responded to all my questions.
Yea I told him I don't want any of those fancy worthless piston keeping the block as close to stock on these motors is very important if you want it to last he seemed to know his sh** that's for sure

i would totally recommend sunwest! i live in spokane, about a 20 min drive from their shop. i just picked up my block from them last week. i dropped it off on wednesday and it was done thursday! super fast. they were really friendly, professional, and knew what they were talking about. i dropped it off, said make it nice, and thats what they did. heres a list of what i had done:
- clean, paint and freeze plugs - bore over and hone - deck block - new timing cover (decked with block) - new npr pistons and rings (not installed, just purchased) it was $270 after tax for all that, so the price is pretty good too. so i have nothing but good to say about sunwest! go for it:great: |
Hell yea I like not hearing any negative they really do seem like a great company
