22RE issue

It seems my second cylinder isn't firing. I have a lot of exhaust noise when accelerating. But here's the weird part the other day I went for a 45 min drive and just like that the secon d cylinder started firing and wow what a difference it made. Ran great all day long after that but when I got home and let it sit overnight my problem came right back. Any idea's?

Watch it idle at night, it's better than the 4th of July. Cory's spark plug wire routing leaves something to be desired :hillbill:

I think what hes trying to say is check for miss-firing due to sparkplug wires or bad plugs.

ADH8796 Nov 21, 2008 04:28 AM

new plugs and wires so I know that's not the problem (I checked all of them to make sure)

you seen any oil leaks around the head gasket?

Nope not at all

soarerjzz30 Nov 21, 2008 01:50 PM

Clogged injector??

ADH8796 Nov 22, 2008 12:52 PM

Nope I checked that too and still no luck

olharleyman Nov 22, 2008 01:03 PM

fouled plug? even new they can be bad ya know I just had this happen with my 3.no and thats what the issue was , brand new Nippion Denso plugs even

ADH8796 Nov 23, 2008 01:30 PM

Nope all the plugs are good. Moved them around a few times and the second cylinder is the only thing not firing.

colsoncj Nov 23, 2008 04:13 PM

what about distributor cap and rotor?

ADH8796 Nov 23, 2008 05:20 PM

Cap and rotor look good but I haven't replaced it or anything. I've pulled the plug wire on the 2nd cylinder while the engine is running and it apears to be working just fine.

colsoncj Nov 23, 2008 09:17 PM

how do you know the second cylinder isnt firing?

ADH8796 Nov 24, 2008 05:06 PM

When I pull the plug on the second cylinder nothing changes at all.

colsoncj Nov 24, 2008 09:52 PM

ok, leave the plug attached to the ignition wire, ground the plug on the valve cover gasket and start the motor. then see if the plug itself is firing, lemme know what you find.

waskillywabbit Nov 25, 2008 04:46 AM

Toyota or aftermarket plug wires?

Some of that cheap aftermarket Toyota stuf is just that...cheap crap.

Had a buddy with the exact same problem and it was his new aftermarket plug wires.

Yes the plug is firing when grounded to he balve gasket. And it's clear that the cylinder is building plenty of compression (crazy loud). It seems like the only think that might make since is that fuel isn't getting into the cylinder. But I don't know?!?!

colsoncj Nov 25, 2008 07:35 PM

ya, you've got a fuel issue... check the connector on the fuel injector to make sure its securely on there... if it is, I'd say look into getting some injectors (I have a few lying around)

ADH8796 Nov 26, 2008 07:54 AM

The connection is good. I moved the injector from cylinder 1 to cylinder 2 because I knew it was working in cylinder 1. Anyway it's not working in cylinder 2 so I'm thinking something is wrong with the wiring for cylinder 2 injector (it's not the actuall injector). But I'm not really sure where to start as far as finding the problem.

colsoncj Nov 26, 2008 09:01 AM

are you leaking fuel out around the injector or do you have any kind of gas smell, and is the injector properly seated?

I'd almost be tempted to pull the connector off of the injector and check it for voltage signals using a multimeter
