Took a quick trip up Smilely Rock on Saturday afternoon in a buddy's rig.

Ran into a group coming down from the top - a big group of mixed rigs, jeeps (old and new - mostly older), an FJC and a 80's era Blue P/u with a sawzall bed bob.

This group did a huge amount of damage to Smilely Rock Trail. The went off trail in several places, rolled boulders off the side of the trail into the road (the road is used by ranchers and as a forest protection road) and ran over trees as well. The Blue Toyota rolled on the one big boulder and they kicked the glass out'a the windshield and left the glass scattered along the road. One of the vehicles was also leaking oil along the way as well.

We turned around and caught up with them at the power substation, and I gave'm all hell. I even invented a couple things along the way, and as an old sailor, that takes some doing.

Anyway, if anyone driving a rolled windshieldless Toy brags about the trip, or anyone that saw it happen brags about it, tell them they are a piece of ****... again.

I'm going to see if I can get the PW back in far enough to cleanup some of the damage. It's going to take a big winch to remove the boulder from the road - I've got that covered. Part of the trail is also blocked by a downed tree, and I'll bring my chainsaw along to remove it. I can't get the big truck thru Smilely now - the trail is just too narrow for the PW with it's 140" wheelbase and big 1T diffs. The off trail damage was done at the upper end, so I'll walk in from the bottom.

I plan on heading in next Saturday morning.

Mark

Anyone know who may be involved in this crime?

sounds like something i would do in high school... not anymore though.. this is truly a disgrace, its things like this that cause trails to close! just because i dont have a trail vehicle anymore (yet!!) doesnt mean i agree with trails closing for everybody due to one group totally trashing it and abusing nature. thank you for going back and cleaning! this world needs more people like you. !!

Indeed, building and maintaining trail is hard enough, cleaning up after a bunch of spoiled brats is unbelievably irritating. Kudos to crawler#976 and anyone who goes up with him!

Just another reason public and private land is getting shutdown. Some think "Hey it is not mine so why should I care" We are doing it to ourselves. When really it is just a few bad apples ruining it for the rest of us.

Its not in may area, but commend you for cleaning it up. We have our fairshare of idiots here too.
