Project Green Mtn 4x4 Chinook

Hey everybody, I've been picking through the forums for a while now, figured I'd join and make it official. I'm up in Huntington, VT.

I posted this up in the general but figured I'd introduce myself in this section.

Ive been wanting to build a 4x4 chinook for a while now, and over the past year the pieces have fallen into place to make it happen this winter. Picked up a 75 chinook the past spring. I've been working out in Montana the past few months and scored an 84 4x4 longbed for a good price. Has a 22r with a blown headgasket in it and the PO had a spare 22r with around 120k on it that he threw in.

Going to do an efi swap(think I found a full 88 to swap out). On that note, if anyone knows of someone looking for some 22Rs let me know, I'd rather see these go to someone who will use them instead of scraping them.

My daily is an 87 4runner that I brought back from Oregon a few years ago.

Here are the photos as everything sits as of now. Anyways, if you're interested in watching another person struggle through a 4x4 chinook build you've come to the right place! haha

Cheers,
Andy

Sounds interesting! Here, I'll hold your beer..... :D
Really it looks like you've got a nice beginning to work from. Look forward to watching the struggle. :)

It would be great to see a four wheel drive Chinook. Here is a thread to help with your conversion https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...4-88-a-278925/ Welcome to Yotatech.

I'll definitely be watching this build. Please be as detailed as possible. I'm also planning on doing this swap as well. If I find a good donor truck this fall it will be a great winter project.

Isn't the 84 cab and inch or two taller than the 75 cab?
I think I recall something like that.
Pretty easy to adjust the frame mounts since you will be making new ones anyway.
You might get some ideas here

That thread was the one that made me want to start this build!

The 84 is with me here in Montana(work here 1/2 the year) and the chinook is back in VT. Once I am back I'll measure everything up and let you know.

Will do Rusker, if you do some searching there are a few build threads on these. I'll have to dig through my bookmarks and send you some.

I found a 22RET with complete harness(no truck or tranny) for a decent price but I think I'm going to stick with an NA motor. I really wanted to go with a 3rz swap in this thing but I haven't been able to find a good donor truck. Plus, I know the 22re pretty well, so for now that is what I am sticking with. Anyone have any experience with the LC supercharger setup? haha Only reason for that thought is the initial low end boost to get this thing up and over hills.

What a start! I love long beds, especially second gens. I would go for a pickup + camper and a roof mount tent with some kind of floor access to get down into the truck, but that's just me. It's all about weight savings and compactability. But anyway, good luck! There's tons of write ups and blogs and people refurbing old toyota RV's and RV's in general, so you should have ample resources to make it happen!

PS I'm jealous of your truck in its current state
