Yo hey need your opinion on a fj cruiser for the ol.

My girlfriend needs a new vehicle and tommorow we are going to the stealership. I am thinkin a fj trd for her. That way in a few years when we do the kid thing and get a " kid car" I will have something else to get stuck in the mud. Whats the low down, and whats yer thoughts? Is there any options with the trd kit and if soo what gives?
Haven't really researched the fj that much but she needs more than a pickup because of the work she does and we got that checked off already anyhow. Thanx for any input in advance !

What does she do that would require "more" than a truck?

I'm not understanding. Most things you need a truck for, an SUV can't match.

Sadly I can't comment on the TRD Kit for the FJ but it's one of those things that works better than the "stock" stuff. But it won't work as well as a lot of aftermarket items.

It depends on how much money you want to spend on it now, and later on. I've heard the stock rigs are perfectly capable for most trails.

So in all honesty I think the TRD package is more about the "look" and stickers than really giving you a noticeable increase in performance.

But I could be wrong, I know next to nothing about the FJ's :hillbill:.

Dude...get her the FJ so you can beat on it too!

or get the Trail Teams edition FJC and supercharge it

Ive seen them make it through a good bit on serious trails with very mild modifications. Put a little armor on it so it stays nice. But as far as stock vehicles it is hard to beat as far as trailrig as well as daily driver.

Nice to see you've resigned yourself to the fact that you're going to have kids with her.

Being a father, my only thing that would potentially lead me away from an FJ is getting kids in and out of the back seat with those half-doors. My advice is to see where a car seat would fit, plus imagining trying to open those things with cars parked on either side of you.

Trail-wise, you'd be better than 99% of vehicles out there. Kid-wise, so so.

The FJ is one of those rigs that is good as a daily driver for her, without sacrificing its trail worthiness for you. I've put the FJ through its paces on moderate 4x4 trails as well as all over town and would do it again in a heart beat. Although with a lift and roof lights I haven't seen the inside of a parking garage in forever. The "special editions" Trail Teams and TRD have some mild suspension upgrades and cosmetics that are not available with other option packages. The E-locker and ATRAC (available in various packages) work well and a must if you're planning to go out on the trails (unless you're planning for air lockers down the road).

good luck on getting what you want

If you can get a good deal on a TRD or '08 TT, go for it. Just throw some decent shoes on it & you're good to go for a while. The kid thing will work fine with the FJ. One of our friends has 3 kids that go on nearly every run & it's all good.

You can get a sweet deal on an '08. There are plenty on the lots right now. When I bought mine 2 years ago there was a 4 month wait after ordering.
