TRD CAI Dyno Results

I stumbled upon dyno graphs for hp/torque conducted by TRD. The increases are most impressive with an unexpected bump from just over 2K rpm on up. Being a skeptic, I called them and spoke with a TRD engineer involved with R&D of "our" CAI and he assured me the data was acquired under controlled, repeatable conditions and represent an average of pulls with an OEM exhuast.

So I pulled the trigger and ordered one plus a spare filter and cleaning kit. It'll be here tomorrow and I'm starting to feel giddy already.

Here's the link, click on "Performance Comparisons" and check out the graphs:

The P/N is PTR05-35061. TRD says they're temporarily sold out. I got the last one available from my regional parts distribution center according to my Parts Mgr.

I'd still like to see independent testing since I'm sure if you call the makers of The Tornado they'll tell you their gains are real too.

I'd like to see your truck dynoed for a real comparison but I do think they should be comparable since I do remember a 4th gen seeing real gains on the 4.0 and was much better than the gains of any filter kit on the 3rd gen's V6.

All good points. A tuner shop in town (Subie specialist) offered to conduct a before/after dyno test one morning. I might just take him up on it though I'm not the best at delaying gratification.

i installed the trd CAI in my FJ about 2 weeks ago and it deffinately has more low end torgue and throttle responce. As for improved MPG im not shure yet, havent seen anything significant, maybe the CPU is still adjusting. BTW i have the CAI and a magnaflow exhaust

Hehehe, just got back from my third ECU training run. Oorah! Now I need to train myself to shift a bit sooner with the way the 1GR pulls all the way to redline WITH AUTHORITY. Before CAI, I'd shift around 5K when in a hurry, there wasn't much point in going higher. Tonight, I kept bouncing off the rev limiter. No doubt, the mid to high end is noticeably stronger. And the sound above 4K completely buries the TRD exhaust with that shrieking growl. Nice.

All in all, I'm pleased so far. My dealership Parts Mgr. said Taco owners report a 3-4 mpg improvement, but I'm the first FJ owner he knows of to install one. Given how tempting it is to hear the 1GR unleashed, I'll be happy to maintain the numbers!
