How do I remove a FJ Cruiser Ignition Lock Cylinder?
My ignition is stuck, occasionally I can get it to turn with a lot of jiggling.
I want to remove the cylinder so I can replace it, does anyone know the procedure? Is is the same as any other Toyotas? Thanks. Stuck in Denver. |

Get a new key made first and see if that works.

I figured out how to remove the ignition lock.
You will need to pull the under dash panel, and the plastic ring around the ignition lock. On the right side of the steering lock, there is a square metal solenoid that is held in by 2 philips screws, you will need a very short philips to remove them. Turn the key to ACC position. Where you removed the square solenoid, there is a plastic button, push that in, then there is a small hole on top of the steering lock, you will need a bent coat hanger or other 1/8" metal rod to depress that button as well, so you may need a helper, now you can pull the ignition lock out. |
Cool, glad you got it.
There are probably some PDF files online too that show how to do this. Let us know if this fixes it. Sometimes when I put my key in the ignition it will not unlock, and I have to take the key out and put it back in again, then take some pressure off the steering wheel by rotating it (did that too when the key would not engage) to make it work. Maybe these need some graphite lube put into the cylinders once in awhile. |
