All Time 4wd

Why is the all time all wheel drive only avail with the standard trans? Why is that the only option for 4wd with the standard?

Are we taling about the Land Cruiser? I'am not aware of any Toyota truck/4Runner that has it unless the 4th generation 4Runner has it.

The 99 4Runner limited has it, with the multi-matic transfer case. you can drive in all-wheel-drive up to 62mph.

3rd gen 4runnes have it.... its the same things as all wheel drive.
I think it was on 01-02 4runners (possibly 00, but i don't think so)
I don't know about the standard tranny option though

edit? really? they had it available in 99?

My '99 has a push button on the side of the transfer case lever. This button will allow one to drive in 4wd (all wheel drive) on drive asphalt, up to 62mph; according to the owners manual.

The manual FJ Cruiser is full time 4WD all the time, you can go as fast as the engine will allow.
120 MPH maybe?

But the manual also has a center locking diff you can activate for more traction.

BT17R would be up on this since he has two manual FJ Cruisers.

The automatic FJ Cruiser like I have is like old school.
2WD all the time until you move the stick to 4 hi or 4 low.

Thanks Corey... To others I was refering to the FJ, hence posting on the FJ board. That said, why not have the full time 4wd as an option on the auto? Any reason for that?I want the full time but don't want to buy a standard because I want an auto.

I prefer not having full time 4WD, that is the same technically as AWD.

The reason the stick gets worse gas mileage over the auto is because it is full time 4WD.

get the 4th gen 4runner (v8) :) then you'll get the full time 4wd.
