T 100 200,000 mile (what to look for)
 
Hi all:
My name is Ron and I am new to this forum. I am getting ready to go look at a 1995 T 100 4x4 ext cab with manual trans. with 200,000 miles on it and would appreciate some advice on what to look for and what might be exspected to go wrong at this mileage. i am new to this forum as well as the Toyota world. I know that toyotas have a very good trac record of alot of miles on vehicles. I would just like toknow if their are certain things with this year to look for?

Rust.

Where are you? If you are in the North-anywhere, look long and hard underneath for rust. Bad frame rust or axles, drive components.

If you hear a crunchy creaky noise that briefly happens when you make a hard slow turn over any sort of bump or ramp that causes any up and down motion of the truck, don't worry, that's the bump stops and its supposed to make that noise. The 4x4s have this and it only happens when the steering wheel is all the way left or right.

Then look for rust, under the battery on the frame, and on the rear suspension components.

Did I mention rust?

Thanks for the response trythis. I am just south of you about 60 miles. Near ottawa kansas. I was mostly concerned that at the 200,000 mile mark there might be some major work that it would be ready for if it has not had anything done to it. I dont think the rust will be a hard thing to see. Thanks Ron

Plug the VIN in and see what was performed at the dealership. ;)

Things that come to mind are:

Water pump/timing belt/front seals
Valve cover gaskets
Idler arm bushing
Steering stabilizer
Shocks
Cracks on the rear axle leaf spring seats
Sway bar bushings/end links
Muffler
Catalytic converter
O2 sensors
Spark plugs/wires/coil on plug boots
Vacuum lines

Hi folks, first time poster. My T100 (DX 4x4 standard cab) just crossed the 200,000 mark earlier this year. One of my OE rear shocks blew out. When I started to replace them, the lower mounting bolts sheared off in the spring plates (both sides). This part has been discontinued (no surprises). Does anyone out there know of any alternatives or Tundra parts that may substitute? Thank you!

Is it possible to drill out the bolts and just replace them? Or is there too much damage/rust?

you said 95 t100, is it a 3.0L or 3.4L? either way I would check compression if possible. both can have headgasket/cracked head issues.

My 96 has 378K miles and it had a cracked head. swapped out the head, gaskets and runs like a champ again.

I have a friend at Independent 4x in Ashland, VA who's helping me get some new spring plates. I don't think drilling out the bolts would have been possible due to the excessive corrosion. Even the shaft the shock mounts to was badly rusted.
I think it's just better to replace them. Thanks for the response!

Sure thing. Good luck with the replacement. I'm sure if they can't find any they can take measurements and fabricate some.
