ECU Question
 

I've grown up driving a stock T100 (Parent's Vehicle). We recently got lucky enough to find another one to replace my old blazer. We have been going through things to get fixed and such and I ran across the ECU. From what I could tell it was not from a T100 and was not from a 95 either. It has 96 written on it but i was wondering how i can find out exactly what it is...I have a few codes and I'm not sure where I should get them read, I believe the 95 has a different ECU than the 96 and later. I would also like to get a supercharger for it someday and want to know some compatibilities.

that link is for a supercharger kit for the 3.4L , and the ECU question your best bet would be to call a toyota dealship for the parts department and read them off the numbers they should be able to pin point it for you as it stands all there stock computers should be all the same specs for the same engines to my knowlege

Enter your VIN, or navigate through the filters under "option 2" to select your vehichle

Then click on the "Electrical" tab across the top, then click the "ELECTRONIC FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM" link. That will give you the Toyota part number for your ECU, which will be printed very prominently on the ECU itself.

If your ECU part number is different, type it into Google and see if you can find any site to cross-reference it, or try looking up different years, options, and models that shared that engine.

This was helpful, the sticker with the numbers on it was in decent condition except for the number I needed but using that website I found something that matched the numbers that weren't missing and it was a 96 4Runner.

Anything else I should know about on this? Ive had timing belt and front wheel bearings done, It has about 157,000 miles on it.

I'm not sure if it's useful for you or not, but here are the three 3.4L ECU part numbers Toyota offered for the '96 4Runner (I'm using a 96 4Runner engine for my 3.4L swap and already had those P/Ns written down).

89661-3D140 - 1996 4Runner ECU 3.4L MT 4x4
89661-3D150 - 1996 4Runner ECU 3.4L AT 4x4
89661-3D160 - 1996 4Runner ECU 3.4L AT 4x2

As for other "maintenance" stuff, check/change fluids (brake, power steering (use ATF only, not power steering fluid), coolant, transmission, axle(s), and of course engine oil), spark plugs, wires, filters, etc. Hopefully you had the water pump done at the same time as the timing belt, since you have to pull the belt to access the water pump.

Other than that (I'm sure others will chime in) drive it around and listen to it, if something makes noise that shouldn't, it's probably needs fixing.

I don't actually know much/anything about the T100 specifically, those are just some generalized suggestions.

Yeah, its the 89661-3D160. They checked the water pump, but it wasn't replaced. Not all sure what has been done to it so I've been looking things over. It does have a bit of engine knock...when I got it, it had what looked to be HD-30 oil... Got that changed to 5w-30.
