Rear window key switch troubleshooting - 1st Gen (1986) 4Runner

Hi, this is my first post so pardon me if this question is in the wrong forum.

I have a 1986 4Runner. The rear window key switch isn't working and I'm trying to figure out the culprit.
  • The center console button works and the window does go up and down without a problem.
  • Turning the key in the tailgate doesn't do anything and there are no sounds.
  • Turning the key feels as I think it should (meaning it doesn't feel like the mechanism is too worn or broken)
  • I took apart the tailgate, unhooked the wiring harness and disconnected the key switch. I then tested for continuity using a multimeter and it beeped, though it was intermittent. I'm not sure if that was just me not holding the connection properly. It's also the first time I've ever used a multimeter to test for continuity so I might be doing something wrong. I touched the multimeter prods to the 6 and 4, and then the 6 and 5 terminals in the switch for the test (I'm assuming the 6 terminal is power?) See image below.

I think I can make an assumption that the key switch does still work from this? Please let me know if I'm wrong here. I then sprayed the connections with Deoxit D5 and reconnected.
  • Where to from here? I understand there could be more relays that could be the problem but I'm not sure what to look for or test for.
  • I also had thought that maybe the power wire was broken and even found a red wire coming from a bundle that was cut/broken, but I think that ended up being power for the defroster as it ultimately connected to one of the brackets holding the glass.

  • I have wiring diagrams from the Chilton and Haynes manuals I have but I can't make heads or tails out of those.
  • Any other ideas, thoughts or suggestions?
I appreciate your help in advance! I've already found great advice and suggestions in the forums here so I'm thinking this is my best bet to getting this fixed.

Cheers
