Real HID in a 2nd Gen 4Runner

Hello,

Just wanted to show you my unfinished HID project. At first, I want to thank all the people of www.hidplanet.com where I've learned a lot about HID lightning and doing it right.

I don't want to bore you about lightning laws in Europe so I'll say that you can only run HID if you take the whole headlamp assemblies (Not only the projectors) off another car or run a universal headlamp like I did.

I used the Hella 90mm modules. I bought the H7 ECE halogen version.

With H7 4300K PnP kit

https://img250.imageshack.us/img250/...sc05310ey0.jpg

It isn't bad but I prefer the stepped pattern, so let's go!

Take out the lens

ECE shield

Reflector bowl

https://img135.imageshack.us/img135/...sc05315zw0.jpg

To make a new shield, we translate the stock one to the alu and make one new line

https://img227.imageshack.us/img227/...sc05318vi1.jpg

Dremel and bench grinder, patience and you've this

https://img227.imageshack.us/img227/...sc05320xa6.jpg

When I tried I didn't like the diagonal kick so I make it straight as the DOT stepped pattern.

https://img339.imageshack.us/img339/...sc05321ew5.jpg

The output wasn't as expected, no color and a strange thing above the step, so I began bending the shield towards the bulb.

A little more color but still the strange thing

https://img130.imageshack.us/img130/...sc05322bj9.jpg

A bit bending later and color begins to shine, and the UFO has gone!

https://img140.imageshack.us/img140/...sc05325zd2.jpg

Color detail. Sad thing the camera don't catched the violet.

https://img67.imageshack.us/img67/6351/dsc05327wz2.jpg

With the second projector I had all studied from the first

https://img250.imageshack.us/img250/...sc05333jb3.jpg

Correct alignment would be simillar to this, isn't it?

https://img250.imageshack.us/img250/...sc05332it6.jpg

I was anxious to test in the truck so I've made a temp base and went trying.

https://img142.imageshack.us/img142/...sc05334uq9.jpg

https://img299.imageshack.us/img299/...sc05336nf9.jpg

https://img141.imageshack.us/img141/...sc05335jv0.jpg

https://img223.imageshack.us/img223/...sc05339kf3.jpg

Now I've to go buy more alu for the def bases, buy the highbeam modules and make a fiberglass piece to hice the projector surroundings.

I'm a bit confused about the vertical alignment... Mine (Temp one) it's not OK but I'm not sure why.

This pic is taken 15m (49ft.) away from the wall. I think the left (Driver side) projector has to be more to the left, right?

https://img151.imageshack.us/img151/...sc05341zf9.jpg

Anyways, driving with them is sooo nice! The color and the step at the cutoff it's a bit strange when driving, but I suppose I must be get used to.

Will post as soon as I make the def bases and put the highbeams and fiberglass.

I've grinded a little the shields and I think now the output is better:

I've made definetively bases for the modules, with 1mm think sheet metal.

https://img150.imageshack.us/img150/...sc05373jr9.jpg

https://img144.imageshack.us/img144/564/dsc05374ir7.jpg

And also added the high beam modules

https://img219.imageshack.us/img219/...sc05379ma9.jpg

Now I only have to make the headlight masks with fiberglass.

What do you think?

I'll try to take night pics.

Really good work!
how are you going to fill all the space around the projectors?

Blizzard 11-01-2007 03:46 AM

I'll try to make a fiberglass mask with the OEM headlamp shape but with the two holes needed. I think I'll look good hehe.

Nice. Id color match the fiber glass with the body or the grill or something too. This makes me want to go mod something!

Ops sorry, I didn't post a nice pic...

It's about 100ft of the wall:

Two weeks ago I made a 5h night trip and I'm in love with HID's. I didn't miss the high beams in any moment, but they're so well aimed that they reach where the HIDs end...

Asuarez737 06-18-2012 01:29 AM

ok i just saw this thread and i must say its super cool! im just wandering how you can make the high beams different from the low beams because on my T4R i use 9004 bulbs and its both high and low. my HIDs dont work in high beam, but i would like to have a set up like this. where could i get the projectors and how could i separate low and high? thanks
