off-road lights?
im going to buy some off road lights and would like to know what brand and type ( driving flood or long range) lights would be good for really lighting up in front of me im thinking of buying a light bar for the back too so any ideas
thanks |
I put 2 hella 500ff lights up front in my bull bar bumper. It lights up the trail way in front of me. It would Be nice to have two more to see the sides of the trails . And I will be putting two under the rear bumper so u can see at night when setting up camp or backing up in pitch black conditions. I want to get a light bar on top as well.

Look in kragen hid lights

I actually bought 2 lights from northern tool and equipment for 12 bucks that turned out to be pretty dang good. Or at least they work great at the ranch on the tractor

Lightforce 240s are arguably the best lights out there, if you have the money the HID model of the 240s are just ridiculous.
|
i got the lightforce 170s and love them as much as i like hid id just kill them as much as i use my lights on the highway

Lightforce lights in general. Any size :great:
|
so i have read a few light forums and i think im going to have to go with some light forces every one has good to say about them except the mounting brakets make the lights viborate on dirt roads but i will have to play to fix that
|
I just put 2 100w KC daylighters on the front of my 4runner and I really like them they have a good long range
|
wait a sec..so you can't use HID's frequently???
i mean i know your not supposed to use the on the road for obvious reasons.. but i often turned my lights on and off a few times a night..would this hurt some HID's??? guess i could always get some nice fog's for use on the roads and frequent use..but they aren't as cool as HID's:smokin: |

not necessarily, the reflector can make a big difference. For example, the hella 500 is a nice light - 55w halogen bulb, upgradeable to 100 watts, and pretty bright. But take a lightforce 170 with a similar bulb and because of the reflector there is a hugely noticeable difference in light output. |
I think the issue with HIDs it if you use them as "high beams" so you are turning them on and off a fair amount. I've always heard don't flash HIDs. We run them on my buddies Endurance race cars. : )
Personally, I have 4 KC Daylighters on top of my truck and someone gave me some comparable ProComps I'm running on my bumper. I Really like them both!! And I also Really like the way they Look too!! |
see i thought of going with some kcs but i will need/want 4 of them and there is so many models to choose from and i dont have money to buy one of them all to test so is there any kc lights you would suggest

IPF makes a nice light for under $100 a pair.
These came with 55 and 100w bulbs. I decided to go with the 55w ultra white bulbs. They have a cleaner light, the 100w bulbs were yellowish, so higher wattage doesn't always mean better. http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...3/DSC04568.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...3/DSC04579.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...3/DSC04576.jpg |

I've got a pair of IPF 968's I'd like to sell for $40. Great lights, but after seeing my friend's Lightforces, I'm a believer that they're worth the $200 price tag.
|

LIghtforce is by far the most popular choice here in Alaska where we are dark for the next 4 months!
