22re assistance please
I got an 89 Toyota 2 door truck 22re auto trans 2wd about 2 months ago. I was told that all it needed was a battery and an alternator. I replaced them and it ran fine but then noticed my driver side light going out over bumps at times and battery and brake light came on. Then the truck died. When replacing the second alternator I noticed that the nut was practically welded the the post. Not sure why? Was told to check fuses, sparkplugs and grounds. I checked all grounds sanded them down to bare metal and reconnected them. Truck ran for a half hour and died. I checked the fuse box and didn't see any loose wires. No blown fuses. I did notice that my diagnosis box was covered in electrical grease and was all burnt. Checked spark plugs. They didn't look healthy by any means. Plug wires were ripped and glued together. Connecters were on the sparkplugs with electric grease on the inside of the plug wire (I'm assuming to make contact since they were all ripped out) still need to replace those to see if that helps. But could it possibly be a short in the charge system? Or lighting system? Not sure what to do with this thing anymore and figured I'd ask for help

Happy New Year!
What do you mean by replacing second alternator? Lights on ONLY one side going out on bumps could be from bad connections. Your cleaning them down to bare metal is good, but check them all, not just the cliched "check grounds" [often a wild guess cure-all from people not really well-versed in electrical :) ]. Dielectric (silicone) grease on connectors is common practice. Replace bad ignition wires regardless. You should also check back-up light switch wiring for free: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...l#post52023759 |
