Keyless entry problems

On my 1999 4Runner the keyless entry/ keychain fob clicker thingy seems to be working intermittently. I tried changing the batteries in both clickers and it doesnt seem to help, and they both act the same. Is there something on the vehicle that could cause this system to not work so well?

Thanks.

open up the fob and use a rubber eraser on the contacts...HTH

I'll give that a try... Thanks!

I have the exact same issue with my 99 SR5, no amount of new batteries, cleaning contacts seem to work. I'm thinking the receiver is going bad.

Yeah, I replaced the batteries not too long ago and the contacts are clean. Neither one is working now though so I'll get a new battery and see what happens.

The fob for my '02 4Runner has started having problems as well. Seems like it doesn't like cold weather. I can immediately unlock the vehicle from indoors about 50 feet away, but if I've been out in the cold walking around for 10 minutes or more, the fob won't work even 2 feet from the vehicle. I doubt the cold is what's affecting your fob seeing as how you live in Las Vegas, but if someone else could confirm whether or not their fobs have problems in cold weather, it'd be appreciated.
